I just finished my second clean install of Windows 7 Home Premium (just in case I had messed up something in the later stages of the first one) - the moment the graphics driver was installed (off the ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z disk) the display froze. Worked fine as long as it was pretending to be an SVGA, the 1920x1080 resolution killed it.There's nothing remarkable about the setup, a Vertex 3 SSD, a 1.5 TB hard disk and stuff hanging off USB ports, nothing else.
I've got the latest Intel driver on the disk and will of course install it (after safe booting and disabling the current one to gain access to the machine) but I tried that before without success and have no reason to believe I'll be any luckier this time around. Anyone have any ideas (other than buying a cheap display card)?
Cheers,
Leifur

To follow up - I just finished installing the ...2509 version of the driver, exactly the same result, system hangs at the "Welcome" screen. I guess I'm off to the store for a cheap display card - anybody want to hazard a guess as to where in the AMD/ATI "digit soup" one would find a performance equivalent of the onboard graphics?
