ZDesk, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support. When did the issue start? Did you make any recent hardware/software changes? What is the model of the monitor? Just to confirm, you mentioned that if you install the "Microsoft* Basic Display Driver" both the laptop and the monitor work fine including the HDMI signal, is that correct? We recommend to install the graphics driver provided by the manufacturer of the laptop, that driver was customized by them to work with your specific platform. I looked in Dell's web site for the drivers, not sure if this is the correct model since the web site only shows:Inspiron* 5748, but I found that there are 2 graphics drivers available, one for Intel® and the other one for Nvidia: Intel® 20.19.15.4835, A07: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=8V48Y&osCode=WT64A&produc... Nvidia 10.18.13.5382, A02: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/drivers/driversdetails?driverId=MD19H&osCode=WT64A&produc... The driver version that you installed 15.40.41.5058 is an Intel generic graphics driver, it might or might not work with your specific platform, that is why we recommend to install the driver provided by Dell: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28163/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?product=814... Another option for this scenario will be to keep using the "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" since that driver might be the best one for this platform. Regards, Alberto R. Thanks for the answer. This problem became one year ago with an update of the O.S. (Win 10). It's not a monitor but a laptop display (Hardware Ids: MONITOR/CMN1734). I tried the drivers from your suggestion but the same problem. If I install an Intel driver I only have a signal on the HDMI not on the display. If I install a "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" I have a signal on the display and I do not have it on the HDMI. I need a laptop for graphic rendering, when I'm in the office I install an Intel driver and I plug in another monitor through the hdmi, but when I go out I must to install "windows basic driver" to run the display but then I can't render graphics. Please for help

ZDesk, You are very welcome. Are you using a docking station or a dongle to connect the external monitor to the HDMI port, or is this an HDMI straight connection? What is the model of the external monitor? This same configuration, was it working fine before? Is this a recent problem? By any chance, do you have the option to test the laptop with another external monitor/TV? We just wanted to confirm a few details about your system, please provide the SSU report: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility Also, please provide the graphics report: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005848/graphics-drivers.html Regards, Alberto R. Dear Alberto,

6 months ago I connected Samsung 22' monitor via "hdmi to dvi convertor", now I'm using 40 'FHD Samsung tv (LE40B651) directly hdmi to hdmi. I tried 49' UHD Samsung TV (UE49UN7172) and 40' FHD Philips tv. With all the combinations the same problem. In addition, I send you the reports and printscreen of device manager from both cases (intel or microsoft basic display driver). Thanks

Hi ZDesk, after reviewing the information, we just wanted to let you know that this issue is actually related to the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) graphics integration, since the laptop is using an NVidia GeForce 840M card and it could have some bandwidth limitation. I found on Dell's website a similar issue reported, there is a solution provided in there that might be helpful for this scenario: https://www.dell.com/community/Laptops-General-Read-Only/Laptop-External-Monitor/td-p/5076953 At this point the best thing to do will be to get in contact directly with the manufacturer of the laptop, so they can provide further technical assistance on this matter: https://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04 Regards, Alberto R.
