Display 5120 x 2160 @ 50hz using HDMI on Intel Core i7-1165G7

Hi All,

According to the i7 specification: intel-core-i71165g7 Spec

Max Resolution (HDMI 2.0b) 4096x2304@60Hz

I need to achieve 5120 x 2160 @ 50hz or at 30Hz using  HDMI 2.0 (max. 18Gbit/s).
Are 5120 px possible @ HDMI @ 30Hz?

What is the max horizontal resolution of HDMI interface @ 50Hz or 30Hz at i7-1165G7 ? Is it hard limited or not?

Many Thanks, Andrew

Hello @Andrew_i7.

Thanks for waiting for a response.

Just letting you know that running 5K at 50hz over HDMI 2.0 is not possible due to bandwidth limitations; however, running 5K at 30hz is possible. Keep in mind that you must load the latest graphics drivers and make sure to install monitor firmware for a proper EDID function.

I hope you find this information useful.

Hello @Andrew_i7

Thanks for waiting for a response.

To better understand this issue, can you please confirm the following information:

Create a report using the following programs:

Intel®️ System Support Utility (Intel®️ SSU)

Intel Graphics Command Center (Intel GCC)

  • Step 1: Open the Intel Graphics Command Center
  • Step 2: Locate and save the graphics driver report

  • Navigate to the Support tab
    • Select System Diagnostic
    • Click Generate Report
    • Select Save and name the output file.

  • Are you trying to achieve this resolution on the built-in monitor or external monitor?
  • In case you are using an external, what is the monitor model of the monitor?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hello Jean,

thank you for the answer.

No, unfortunately I can't.

Reason: I do not own such a 40-inch Monitor until yet.

I own my Notebook with only HDMI (no USB-C DP) and I'd like to buy a monitor with 5120x2160 pixel.

Is it expected to work?

Best regards, Andrew

Hello Jean,

as requsted...

1) SSU Report @ built-in monitor

2) GCC Report @ built-in monitor

3) "Are you trying to achieve this resolution on the built-in monitor or external monitor?"

Answer to 3): external Monitor via HDMI 2.0 (max. 18Gbit/s)

4)  "what is the monitor model of the monitor?"

Answer to 4):    Lenovo ThinkVision P40w-20, 39.7" Spec Page 1-18

or   Dell UltraSharp U4021QW or    HP Z40c G3

Thanks for your response.

Regarding your question, we have not validated the Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics to work under Display 5120 x 2160 @ 50hz resolution. As per the bandwidth of the HDMI 2.0, it may work. The resolutions we have validated are the ones stated on the product's specifications website (https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/208921/intel-core-i71165g7-processor-12m-cache-up-to-4-70-ghz-with-ipu.html).

Also, I found that your system has two different graphics devices: Intel(R) Iris(R) Xe Graphics, and NVIDIA GeForce MX350, due to your system working in a hybrid environment, we can't ensure which of the graphics devices control the HDMI port. For this information, you may need to contact the OEM since they have a better understanding of how the system works.

I hope you find this information useful.

Hello Jean,

thank you for the answer.

Monitor @ HDMI2.0 @ Intel Core i7-1165G7:
1) Please, can you check if more then 4096 horizontal pixels are supported?
2) What are the maximum Pixel Clock supported?

Many thanks for your time,
Andrew
