Does Intel Arc A770 have support to 10 bits color depht?

I would like to know if the Arc A770 has support for a color depth greater than 8 Bits and how do I diagnose this, if possible. I'm using a monitor that theoretically supports 10 bits color depth via displayport 1.4. Apparently I can't modify this in the settings. But it would be interesting to know more about how it works.

Hello PasteuU,

Thank you for posting on the Intel®️ communities. I will be more than happy to help you. Since you are having issues setting the color depth to 10 bits in your Intel® Arc™ A770 Graphics. In order to enhance comprehension of the circumstances, kindly respond to the following inquiries:

  • Is the graphics card an Intel branded card or is it of another brand?
  • What port are you using to connect the display?
  • What is the display make and model?

Hi. Thank you for the fast answer. In order:

- my gpu is a Intel Arc A770 8GB Asrock Phantom Gaming.
- I'm using a displayport connection (the monitor conection is DP 1.4)

- Im using a white label display. But the original model is a SANC M2762QPA.

Currently it is only possible to output 10-bit if HDR is activated: https://github.com/IGCIT/Intel-GPU-Community-Issue-Tracker-IGCIT/issues/179

It's been a long and hard wait for the possibility of manually setting up 10-bit output for SDR as well… But there is still no date announced for this.

Hello PasteuU,

Thank you for your response and for all the information provided.

The only way to use 10-bit color depth is with native HDMI connections (if supported by the display).

Please try connecting the display and graphics card through HDMI and let me know the results.

Hello again.

Even with the use of HDMI on Arc, there was no change or any option was available to edit "bpp" in the Intel Graphics Command Center."
However, using that connection in conjunction with the uhd 730, integrated into my CPU, I was able to verify that the bpp could not be edited beyond 8. This could indicate that my monitor is, in fact, 8 bits + FRC (activated via displayport in windows settings).
The problem may have been clarified. But there are still elements of doubt about the graphical customizations available for the GPU output.
Anyway, thanks for the help 😉

Please create a system report using this tool and attach the output file here. Then we can assess the system in terms of HDMI capabilities.

thanks for the good tip. According to the settings there, my display supports 4294967296 colors and 32 bits (True color). So nothing I can do I believe LOL

Unfortunately, there is a limitation due to a component (HDMI retimer) on your motherboard. If you only have "BPC_8" to choose from in the Intel Graphics Command Center, then unfortunately this cannot be changed without replacing the mainboard.

Hm... I didn't expect that from my z690. Thanks for the advise

Yes, unfortunately it is like this:

MUC_4-1705782590412.png

Parade Technologies PS8409A – 6 Gbps HDMI 2.0 Jitter Cleaning Repeater / Retimer

Supports up to 4K UHD formats, 24-bit color (for RGB >>> 3 x 8 bpc = 24).

If the motherboard had a Redriver chip, 10 bpc would work on integrated graphics via HDMI.

A Redriver ensures signal range and integrity by amplifying what has been lost due to former electrical resistance. A Retimer is aware of the protocol used and recovers the signal and retransmits. The latter must then explicitly support the bit depth. The PS8409A doesn't do that.

Hello PasteuU,

Thank you for your answer and for keeping us informed of the results.

Just for you to know Intel® Arc™ Limited Edition Graphics Cards use a Protocol Converter (PCON) chip to support HDMI 2.1 displays over the DisplayPort 2.0 interface, meaning that it is not a native HDMI port.

In this case, I see your graphics card is the AsRock edition, to know if it meets the same characteristics, please contact ASRock.

For now, we will close this thread. If you need any additional information, please submit a new question as this thread will no longer be monitored.

ARC Cards doesn't support 10-bit SDR color, but I've managed to enable 10-bit color in HDMI port GUNNIR ARC PHOTON A 770, My monitor doesn't support 10-bit SDR over HDMI, so I've tweaked my monitor.
Details can be found here  https://techpowernext.com/how-to-enable-10-bit-sdr-color-in-intel-arc-gpugunnir/
