Fortnite stuttering frequently on latest driver

Description

Provide a detailed description of the issue

Fortnite stutters frequently in game especially while in high combat situations. (Ex. 50v50 when everyone is in the small circle battling it out) This issue seems to happen randomly (however occurs way more frequently in combat as mentioned above). In some severe cases, the game can freeze for several seconds.

Interestingly, the issue does NOT occur in a very very old version of the driver from 2016. This version is 21.20.16.4494. This was obtained from Acer's website and is labeled "VGA Driver (Kabylake)" on their website https://www.acer.com/ac/en/CA/content/support-product/6752?b=1&pn=NX.GE6AA.015 here. On this driver, the game only stutters after loading into a match and/or after jumping from the battle bus. Not during combat or gameplay after landing.

Please place an X to the right of the option showing how often you see this issue using specific steps. (Ex: 'Every few times a game is started it flickers.' <- This would be "Often")<p>

I've attached a few graphs to show the FPS decrease during stuttering using MSI Afterburner. I also attached a graph of using the older driver which did not stutter.

The frametime is the bottom number and FPS is the top number.

Here is a graph of the old driver during gameplay.

I have also attached the .HML file which you can open in MSI Afterburner to view the graphs in detail. You may notice large FPS boosts and dips at the beginning and end of the graphs, that's just during the loading screen and not during gameplay. Also, sidenote it appears GPU Usage % counting is broken using the latest driver as well.

I just tried the new driver and it seems to be a bit better but still not great. Jumping out of the battle bus is horrible with lots of stuttering still and combat is not much better. General gameplay seems to be a bit better though but not perfect. Using the settings from the website seems to make jumping out of the battle bus quite a bit better. Gameplay feels about the same as my previous settings and combat would probably be the same as well even though I didn't test that. I have attached the settings I used below.

Hello Jacky161

Thank you for waiting; Allow me to share with you that we have tested the game several times and ways, we can see some lagging, but it appears randomly and does not seems to be related to the Intel® graphics driver since they are not constant. Therefore, at this point, the reported issue is unrelated to our driver. Please use the latest driver version 24.20.100.6286 available at:https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27988/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27988/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10.

Thanks for providing this feedback and as usual we are always improving our drivers and products.

In case you have to install the drivers manually please refer to the following steps:
  1. Download the graphics driver ZIP file on the previous link.
  2. Unzip the file to a designated location or folder.
  3. Right-click Windows Start icon and open Device Manager.
  4. Click "Yes" when prompted for permission from User Account Control.
  5. Expand the Display adapters section.
  6. Right-click the Intel® graphics entry and select Update Driver Software.
  7. Click "Browse my computer for driver software".
  8. Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".
  9. Click "Have Disk".
  10. Click "Browse".
  11. Access the designated location or folder, and access a folder called "Graphics".
  12. Select the file called "igdlh64" or "igdlh".
  13. Click Open, then click OK, and finally click "Next". Drivers are now being installed.
  14. Reboot your computer.
  15. And let me know if you have any issues during the installation.

I just tried the newest driver and it is terrible on Fortnite. It's impossible to play at this point. It freezes for several seconds at a time and it's impossible to do anything in game. I'm not sure why the game doesn't lag on the old driver but does on the new driver. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do at this point other than to just use the old driver.

Hello Jacky161

Thank you for the information.

We have tested the behavior with 100 Mbps wired connection, Intel® HD graphics 620 (different diver versions from Intel® site latest and oldest), and 8GB of ram; we have got to the behavior reported on the previous post.

Also, take in consideration the Intel® graphics driver are the generic driver for the Intel® HD graphics controller on the system since the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) would customize and personalize the driver that they provide (21.20.16.4494) for the Laptop system in this case you can contact the OEM for consult if there are newer driver for your system model, in addition to the divers you could consult for available bios updates or increasing the ram on the system for better performance.
