HD Graphics 530 restricts resolution to 1920 X 1080, want 2560 X 1080 @ 60hz

I have a Windows 10 machine with HD Graphics 530. This is a HP machine, that originally had a HP driver, that did not go beyond 1920 X 1080 either. I used DDU to remove the device driver and while the machine boots up in Safe Mode and after the device driver was removed, the display correctly switches to 2560 X 1080. However, after I installed the latest Intel Drivers (27.20.100.9079) the resolution reverted back to 1920 X 1080.

Albert,

Thank you for the response. I was able to resolve the issue. As it turns out, it was the cable that I was using to connect the PC to the monitor. I replaced the cable with a higher capacity (4K) DisplayPort cable and the resolution automatically resolved itself.

I stumbled on this solution as a result of looking for cables on Amazon. I found  Q&A that described this problem for a different cable that I had previously purchased (but was not using).

Ultimately, it seems like the Intel driver was recognizing the capacity limitation of the cable and preventing the higher resolution. I am still not clear as to why the old cable works when there are no drivers installed (safe mode or uninstalled), but at this point, I do not care.

Here is the cable I used that worked. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZCJDY16/

Here is a cable that I tried that did not work. https://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Braided-Unidirectional-Projector-ThinkPad-Grey/dp/B07ZQ7K6S1/

toddbecker, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

In reference to this scenario, just to let you know, the reason why you get the 2560 X 1080 resolution in safe mode, is because safe mode disabled all the drivers involved, so basically you are working without drivers in that mode which will limit the proper functionality of the Graphics portion of the Intel® Processor.

Now, in order for us to be able to provide the most accurate assistance, please provide the following details of your system:

Are you using an external monitor(s)? If that is the case, please provide the model of all of them.

Which video ports are you using to connect the external monitor(S)?

Are you using adapters or converters to connect them to the computer?

Please provide the Intel® Graphics report so we can confirm the graphics configuration on the laptop:

Please provide the SSU report so we can verify further details about the components in your platform, please check all the options in the report including the one that says "3rd party software logs":

toddbecker, You are very welcome, thank you very much for sharing those updates.

Perfect, excellent, it is great to hear that the problem got fixed by replacing the DisplayPort cable and that now you can use the resolution you were looking for.

"I am still not clear as to why the old cable works when there are no drivers installed (safe mode or uninstalled)", that is because at that point you are using the Windows* basic driver that does not contain all the features and functions a Graphics driver should have, but still recognizes the monitor and it allows you to choose some resolutions that might not be available after installing the Graphics driver.
