HD Graphics 5500 - Can't update - Can't change brightness

Hello, I'm working on a Panasonic CF-31 laptop with Intel HD graphics 5500. I've got everything working well, with exception to the display. It refuses to change brightness only while on battery.  I believe it is a Windows Update/display driver incompatibility, but maybe someone has an idea of how to get past it.

Included is a print screen of what I have thus far.

I tried several of the Intel Install tools, all of them claimed system incompatibility.

Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows* [15.33]

Intel® HD Graphics Production Driver for Windows® 10, 64-bit* (N-Series)

Intel® Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 [15.40][4th Gen] (latest)

The latest driver I can get is the one on the print screen, 20.19.15.5058

If I do a fresh install of Windows 10, before the updates, with an older driver, it works. I can change brightness. After Windows update, even with older driver it doesn't work anymore. I rolled back system updates to no avail. The slider moves but nothing on the screen changes.

I've looked for adaptive settings and battery saver settings and disabled them all.  The brightness will change when the power adapter is plugged in before the system is started. On battery, when booted it will not change.

I've tried modifying the registry key to f008 and fb20, nothing.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}\0000

The Intel firmware has been upgraded, as well as the Bios and TPM. If I do all Windows updates, it is not fixed.

When I tried tried the Intel DSA, it does not give a graphics update option. It does give an option for updating bluetooth and something else. When I did those updates, the computer bluescreened on the next reboot. So I wiped windows and tried again.

Chkdsk shows no errors either.

Help or tips appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me!

I was able to do a driver update to the 2020 version. It is still not working at the moment, but it is an improvement over what I had. I was unable to find any .zip file with drivers before.

I'm going to redo all the Windows Updates and get back.

Ok, I did all the Windows Updates, with exception to the 'Optional quality update'

2023-10 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5031445)

The driver is updated to 20.19.15.5171 (shown in printscreen).

I'm still out of ideas. If I change to the crude 'Windows Display Adapter', it does allow me to change brightness in 1 interval. (Bright, not bright)

Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks!
