HD graphics 4000 won’t run 1920x1080 monitor

I have a Lenovo thinkstation with windows 10 pro intel i7 3770 with an intel HD graphics 4000. I hooked my 1920x1080 monitor with an HDMI (on monitor) to a HDMI to DisplayPort adaptor (into pc) but the monitor is only clear if I drop my resolution to 1280x800. Am I doing something wrong? Why can’t I run at 1920x1080?

There may be a problem with either your DP-to-HDMI dongle or with your HDMI cable.​ You need a High-Speed-class HDMI cable.
