Hi I have Lenovo carbon x1 model 20KH006MMH. I would like to connect external monitor 27MD5KL-B via USB-C in order to have resolution of 5120x2880@60Hz via (USB Type-C). According to Lenovo specification it should work. I am not sure it will work?

No, it won't work.

5K@60Hz requires a data rate of 22.18 Gbit/s. The DisplayPort 1.2 channel in the USB-C connector supports a maximum data rate of 17.28 Gbit/s. Bottom line, there simply isn't enough bandwidth for 5K@60Hz.

Now, 5K@30Hz might be possible. This requires a data rate of just 10.94 Gbit/s.

But I checked my lenovo has USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 / Thunderbolt 3 and should support 5K 60hz

I am telling you that each graphics channel coming out of your processor (and into the Thunderbolt/USB-C circuitry) is only DisplayPort 1.2 compliant and thus is not capable of supporting 5K@60Hz.

Regardless, if you don't believe me, feel free to spend the money and prove me wrong. Let us know how successful you are. If it doesn't work, don't come here complaining that the Intel's problem; make Lenovo prove it can work (it's their claim, after all).
