Huge lag in games after driver update

I just updated my Intel UHD 620 drivers to the latest version [30.0.101.1069] and my games started lagging when I attempted to play them. This lag isn't small or anything, the games are basically unplayable. Could you suggest a permanent fix to this issue?

Hello IdkLemon,

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to better assist you, please provide the following:

1. Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) to gather more details about the system.

· Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18377/intel-system-support-utility-for-windows.html

· Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".

· To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

2. Are you using a laptop or desktop computer?

3. Can you provide a list of the games affected

4. Can you send a video where we can see the issue?

5. Does the game crash? If so, do you get any error codes?

Regards,

Hi, thanks for reaching out.

Just wanted to let you know that I have rolled back the drivers as a temporary solution, but I still am looking for a long-term fix to this issue.

2. I'm using a laptop [Dell Inspiron 13 5000 Series].
3. Valorant and Genshin Impact.
4. Sorry I don't think that's possible, Ill try sending one if I can.
5. No they don't, it's just that the fps is so bad that it basically becomes unplayable.

Hello

I have 2 recordings of Genshin impact, but unfortunately I had some trouble recording Valorant and was unable to get a video. Genshin and Valorant behave really similar with extreme fps stutters, both are unplayable.

Also I'd like to mention that I tried uninstalling my Intel graphics and reinstalling them to the latest version, but that didn't work out.

Once again, thanks for reaching out. Hoping for a fix for this soon.

Hello again

Thanks for providing a list of possible solutions, before trying anything I wanted to clarify some doubts.

On the webpage you have provided,

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057389/graphics.html

it has mentioned to not use this method to install windows DCH drivers, is it fine if I use the links you have given to install the new drivers?

Sorry for asking, I just wanted to be sure before doing this.

Hello IdkLemon,

In this case, each link has two files to download (.exe and .zip). The first 15 steps (before the warning) are meant to be used with the .exe file, the first option available. The steps after the warning, are meant to be used with the .zip file which is tey second option available.

If the steps with the .exe file do not work you can use the .zip file. The steps provided are safe to use, if you feel comfortable, you can use only the .exe file to install the updates (steps before the warning).

Please let me know if the issue persists.

Hello

As you suggested, I tried installing driver version 30.0.101.1191, but unfortunately it didn't work. Right after, I installed version 27.20.100.8783, and Genshin Impact ran as it did before, but unexpectedly crashed after around 10 minutes of runtime the first time I loaded it, besides that, no other apparent issues.

Also I'd like to ask why driver versions later than 27.20.100.8783 don't work on Genshin Impact and Valorant on my device? I had thought updating drivers to the latest versions improved game performance, not the opposite.

Is there any need for me to try installing the BETA driver version or updating to Windows 11?

Hello IdkLemon,

Before we continue further, please try the following as a test:

1. Try the BETA version, this version has different features that may help.

2. Try with version 27.20.100.8476, seems to work fine with Valorant.

3. Update Windows 10 to the latest version and built (19044.), not to Windows 11.

Please let me know if the issue persists

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I was busy the past few days.

The BETA version didn't seem to change anything, it was the same as the others, very laggy and unplayable. Valorant works fine with version 27.20.100.8476. I also updated windows to the latest version and tried the BETA and 30.0.101.1191 versions, nothing changed.

Hello IdkLemon,

I am glad to know that Valorant is working fine with driver version 27.20.100.8476. However, Genshin Impact was validated and tested only on Intel Iris Xe graphics (i.e. the graphics controller found on laptops with 11th generation Intel processors) and starting with driver 27.20.100.8783 or newer.

My recommendation is to get in contact with the game developer's official FAQ for useful advice and tips. You may also try Intel's latest DCH generic driver available on Download Center, but if the issue persists try lowering the graphics settings.
