I can not set 2560x1440 60Hz resolution in UHD770

Chris_Lin

I have ASUS VA32AQ which support 2560x1440 60Hz resolution. But my UHD770 in 12700K can not support 2560x1440 60Hz resolution.

I connect via HDMI port.

I can see there is " 2560x1440 (60p Hz)" in the information list, but there is not in the Resolution options.

I tried to add 2560x1440 manually, but this is still not working.

I found the solution with cru v1.5.1 (Custom Resolution Utility) software.

I just run cru v1.5.1, it already show 2560x1440 in Detail resolution, I press OK, restart PC, then 2560x1440 60Hz appear on Intel Graphices Command Ceneter and Windows display setting, and this is working!!!!

Seem Intel Driver can not discriminate some default EDID?

Anyway thank you for your help too.

Hello Chris_Lin

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. Please share with us the following information:

  • What connections are used in this configuration (ports, cables, etc)
  • Do you use any adapters/converters?
  • Did you get the resolution available before? If you did, when did this issue start?
  • Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) results

Hi

1. The connection port is HDMI v1.4, and cable is v1.4 too.

2. I do not have any adapters/converters, the HDMI cable connect to monitor directly.

3. I install nVIDIA GF405 card and working in 2560x1440 60Hz (same cable, same monitor), so I think this is UHD 770 problem or driver problem.

Attached is my ssu information

File "ssu.txt"

Monitor Model: VA32AQ
Monitor Id: AUS32A1

In the file "Answer1.txt" this situation is analyzed in detail and in the EDID displays of the same model

there are inconsistencies like:

"Maximum Clock: 241.500 MHz (Monitor: 240.000 MHz)"

Intel Corp. drivers were extremely strict about mode settings declared in EDID displays these days.

Online program edidreader.com also does not cope with the mismatch of parameters and

displays: "Max TMDS Clock Rate: MHz", although this value is 290 MHz in "Vendor Specific Data Block HDMI 1.4".

In

"DTD 1: 2560x1440 59.950550 Hz 16:9 88.787 kHz 241.500000 MHz (digital composite, 698 mm x 393 mm)
Hfront 48 Hsync 32 Hback 80 Hpol P
Vfront 3 Vsync 5 Vback 33"

there is no "Vpol" parameter

You can consult the display manufacturer about this.

You can use when obtaining the correct EDID:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000056144/graphics/legacy-graphics.html

Once was "Intel HD Graphics Control Panel" ( Preceding processors and drivers of Intel Corp. This may be tested. There is button "Help" )

In this case, you need to use "CVT-RB"

Intel Corp. can fully clarify this.

Resolution 2560x1440 at 60Hz with this display is possible with "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" (64 Hz) or simply test in Windows "Safe Mode" with auto same "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" (64 Hz).

Thank you for the information Chris_Lin. Checking the report provided it seems that you're not using the latest graphics driver available, for testing:

Let us know the outcome and share with us the Intel* GCC report if the issue persists:

  1. Open the Intel® Graphics Command Center
  2. "Support" > "System Diagnostic" > "Generate Report

Hi,

I tried driver 30.0.101.1340 and OEM driver 30.0.101.1002, but both is still not working.

I also tried input parameter in "Advanced Custom Resolution" that "Answer1.txt" recommend, but it show "Error Occurred" message.

Please see attached "Error Occurred.jpg".

By the way, since my NVIDIA card is working with 2560x1440, I also refer to NVIDIA setting to fill to Intel "Advanced Custom Resolution", but it is still not working and show "Error Occurred" message.

Attached "nvidia setting.jpg" is my setting that working with 2560x1440.

I recommended use simple "Custom Resolution", "Basic" with "CVT-RB".

If more complex "Advanced Custom Resolution", file "Error Occurred.jpg" program auto calculated parameter "Pixel Clock" according to

EDID limit 240 MHz

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Display Range Limits:
Monitor ranges (GTF): 50-75 Hz V, 30-90 kHz H, max dotclock 240 MHz
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

must be < 240MHz ( shown 241.6992 ) at reducing blanking times.

Resolution 2560x1440 at 60Hz with this display is possible with "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" (64 Hz) or simply test this in Windows "Safe Mode" with auto same "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" (64 Hz).

Start your PC in safe mode in Windows (microsoft.com)

"Start your PC in safe mode in Windows"

Ask this display manufacturer also.

And

  1. Open the Intel® Graphics Command Center
  2. "Support" > "System Diagnostic" > "Generate Report

Hi

I tried "Custom Resolution", "Basic" with "CVT-RB", enter 2560x1440, press OK, the screen black a while then recover, the resolution i still 1920x1080,even it show 2560x1440 on the Resolution option. (Attached Basic CVT-RB.jpg)

I tried adjust pixel clock to < 240Mhz, but it show Error Occurred too. (Attached less then 240Mhz.jpg)

I tried start PC in saft mode, the setting is 1024x768 64Hz, the resolution only list this one, I can not change 2560x1440 too。

I attached Generate Report.txt.

My 4K display in "Safe Mode" normally has a resolution of 4K@64Hz.

...

I/O Ports
DisplayPort 1.2 x 1
HDMI(v1.4) x 1
VGA x 1
Earphone Jack : Yes

The HDMI parameters of the MB output have the most advanced values,

and DisplayPort "Support for DisplayPort 1.2 version" like the display so you can try the DisplayPort connection.

I will simulate the EDID data of the display from the file "Generate Report.txt".

Hi

1. The connection harborage is HDMI v1.4, and string is v1.4 too.
2. I don't have any appendages/ transformers, the HDMI string connect to cover directly.

3. I install nVIDIA GF405 card and working in 2560x1440 60Hz ( same string, same examiner), so I suppose this is UHD 770 problem or motorist problem.
Another way I tried"Custom Resolution","Basic"with"CVT-RB", enter 2560x1440, press OK, the screen dark a while also recover, the resolution i still 1920x1080 , indeed it show 2560x1440 on the Resolution option. ( Attached BasicCVT-RB.jpg)

I tried acclimate pixel timepiece to< 240Mhz, but it show Error Passed too. ( Attached less also240Mhz.jpg)
I tried start PC in saft mode, the setting is 1024x768 64Hz, the resolution only list this bone, I can't change 2560x1440 too.

Unfortunately, what is promised in the documentation is not always fully confirmed in reality, so

at this point in time, I recommend this solution:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/DisplayLink-and-others-companies-help-connect-Display-via-USB/td-p/1340197

"DisplayLink and others companies help connect Display via USB"

I tested again one of the devices listed there "j5create JUA354 USB 3.0 to 4K HDMI Display Adapter"

https://info.j5create.com/products/jua354

"JUA354 USB™ 3.0 to 4K HDMI™ Display Adapter"

It can provide 2560x1440 at 60Hz for this display (requires a driver).

https://www.amazon.com/j5create-Display-Adapter-JUA354-Graphics/dp/B071X7K6BS

There are also the same adapters for DisplayPort.

The MB problem can be solved in this way but the display EDID problem still remains.

EDID of display in file "Generate Report.txt" is more correct now

Selected graphics driver "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" with 4K HDMI display U4a.jpg - U4d.jpg.

"Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" seeks to find "native" resolution when processing EDID of display
(usually maximum resolution) and set it as the only fine resolution. But on your system
when processing the EDID of display, it does not find a resolution of 2560x1440 according to its criteria
or cannot set it. "Microsoft Basic Display Adapter" can be tried to verify this when connecting
display to NVIDIA video adapter.

In the updated EDID occurred as fundamental positive changes, ensuring its positive
Intel Corp.'s driver perception, and completely unexpected secondary.

1. Block 0 now has no "Display range limits" at all, and this immediately solves the problem of "Pixel Clock: 241.5MHz" and
the limit is 240 MHz in it.

2. "Detailed Timing Descriptor" in Block 0 "Sync Type: 3" such as in Block 1

At the same time, there were also unpredictable and unnecessary changes, completely unrelated to the 2560x1440 at 60 Hz mode
as a replacement for "Horizontal Display Size:" 698 by 640 and "Vertical Display Size:" 393 by 360. ( In Block 1 old 698, 393 )
