Running Windows Vista 64 Home Premium SP2 on a HP DV6930 Intel Core Centrino Duo T5750 2.0GHz with Display Adapter Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family. The machine worked great until approximately last November. Do not know what happened, may be an update. I deactivated Updates since Previous Errors and problems...However, to switch to IE9, since IE7 was not supported anymore, I did an update SP2 and some updates. When the problem started.
I now... as many people has...have the well know igfx display driver problem...Started BIOS with blue screens....After that I recover and did some updates....The problem now is that,,( many times using my Admin user, most of the time, if I boot and use Guest user it has happened less times)....the system start to freeze...blackout screen with pointing device,,,,comes and goes....then totally dark and frozen....If I force reboot..using safe mode,,,systems runs ok and do a sfc /scannow...then reboot and run under Guest user...since under Admin user can't,,,it freezes...I run as admin Console and use the SFC /Scannow with Guest user...it fixes the problem until I reboot again....The system updates and fails again...IGFX Display driver Fails and recover.....But systems comes and goes until it freezes...
I have the CBS.LOG file...and I noticed that the SFC checks and find some problems and fix them....most of the time it find that the system runs under AMD and to correct the error it substitute the file with the Intel ones...this fixes the problems until I decide to switch to admin after a reboot.
I have the CBS.log for yesterday...Could you please evaluate it and see if you can help to catch the problem....I know that there shall be a program running telling to my system to change settings under the Admin User...this is causing my driver to fail....But why the system is changing to AMD? I scanned for Viruses with my Norton without luck....I switch to Default driver under my ADMIN USER TO SEE IF THAT HELPS...
This is a copy of my CBS.Log only for 23 Jan 2015....The original is about 16MB in TXT...is too big and it covers from 20 Jan to 23 Jan 2015...Since I started to use SFC....

I set my Driver to a generic..problem persist after reboot...I have to reboot in safe mode with internet so I can post this. I ran SFC /SCANNOW
again and found system files errors that sfc correct it...I notice in my error log that the version of my service pack 2 has the AMD on its name.BuildString: 6002.18881.amd64fre.vistasp2_gdr.130707-1535. My SFC is changing all AMD related system files with the Intel files..and problem seems to be ok, until I reboot again.
This is a copy of my version file and systemdata during this error...

Please uninstall and reinstall the graphics driver. You can try a different version, including the one provided by HP*.

If that does not work, you can try a clean boot or a Windows* System Restore.

Thanks Joe;
Your hints are v ery helpful.
The first driver you posted is the one I installed trying to resolve the issue...winvista64_15124.exe.I also downloaded the HP last driver,,sp36395.exe..but is was my original driver..I installed them again the problem persisted...I also used your recommendation on soing a clean boot. I reduced the amount the services are being loaded. This apparently is helping me more. Since the IGFX Driver Stop Working is due to the lack of memory, driver hangs and the windows try to re-start it...Making the problem worse. I Came across the HP Support Center Site and did al their recommendations....Some of them I already have them implemented to avoid use too much memory...Like Display resolution and settings to improve performance. I discover also that they recommend to do some changes to my registry which I implemented..http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c04258322&DocLang=en&docLocale=en_US&jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001 HP Support document - HP Support Center
Each of these setps is a differente possible solution....
1: Restart the computer to see if problem persiste
2: Close all other programs to see if a program is causing this problem
3: Update the graphics driver
4: Update Windows
5: Adjust visual effects in Windows and reduce Display resolution and Disabling Windows Aero
6: Adjust the settings within the game or program
7: Improve system performance Like adding more Memory and Working with Windows setups,,
8: Increase the GPU processing time, by changinf Display Driver Registry in Windows Registry Edit, They recomend 7 seconds instead 2 seconds to avoid windows creates a loop causing system to crash...
I already running with 1, 2, 3, 5, and 8....Runign on Custume booth until now while I respond to you ans system seems ok,,,,Booting and login as Admin...
However, if I do SFC /scannow the system continues finding problems as before.....not sure if the problem is really solved or if one of this settings (registry) is allowing to run the igfx driver in lack of memory for more time (8sec) or stoping windows to shutdown ans restart the driver...May be the problem persist, but now I am not see it.
I will confirm you if SFC still encuntering currupted files,,,and if the problem really is not detected anymore.,
Thanks..Joe

Still having the SFC /Scannow..corrupted files..so I think these corrupted files are not the main cause of the IGFX...Everything else has been working fine.

Well I got away from SFC /Scannow corrupted files by restoring my computer with a fresh restore. My machine has worked intermittent well. I noticed that even when you change the registry to try to cut the IGFX error message, that is what it does..it hides the message, however the problem persist. When you check the event viewer when the system has failed with my new fresh restore, the system is freezing, not error is shown as if igfx driver has failed (due to the registry edit delay time increase) but the system displays comes and goes, USBs stop working or recognizing the devices and eventually the systems dies in black screen with high HD usage...All black, mouse pointer sometimes working in black screen and all lights on the system are working as if system is ok...sometime if you pull ac adapter out and back in the screen comes on but freezes...I am looking to try new drivers for this to see how it goes...
