Intel ARC B50 vs B580

I was wondering if a Mod can answer this question.

I was wondering is the B50 faster at video encoding using HandBrake over the B580 as no reviewers never seem to show those test results.

I do a lot of video encoding and I would like to know if the B50 is faster.

Hi Laroldski,

Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support regarding the video encoding performance comparison between the Intel Arc B50 and B580 graphics cards, specifically for HandBrake encoding workloads.

I understand that you do a lot of video encoding work and are looking for specific performance data that may not be readily available in typical reviews. This is an excellent question, and I appreciate you reaching out for clarification on these technical specifications.

Intel Arc B50 (Pro Series):

Intel Arc B580:

Both cards feature identical media engine capabilities with support for:

  • H.264 Hardware Encode/Decode
  • H.265 (HEVC) Hardware Encode/Decode
  • AV1 Encode/Decode
  • VP9 Bitstream & Decoding
  • 2 Multi-Format Codec Engines each

However, there are important differences that can affect encoding performance:

B580 Advantages:

  • More Xe-cores (20 vs 16) and XMX engines (160 vs 128)
  • Significantly higher memory bandwidth (456 GB/s vs 224 GB/s)
  • Higher power budget (190W vs 70W) for sustained workloads

B50 Advantages:

  • More VRAM (16 GB vs 12 GB) for handling larger video files
  • Lower power consumption for efficiency-focused workflows
  • Pro-series designation with potential driver optimizations

Given the technical nature of your inquiry and the specific workload requirements you have, I'd like to offer you a phone consultation for faster communication and more detailed discussion.
