Intel HD 4600 Lenovo Y5070

Hello everyone, I have a Lenovo Y5070 with intel HD 4600 and nVidia 860m.

This monday I was playing overwatch, closed the game, disconnected my ethernet cable, and since then my screen isn't working properly.ello

It shows yellow rectangles and some kind of tearing. Same happens when I plug an HDMI cable so it's not my laptop's screen.

Same error happens in ubuntu.

So far the only "solution" I've come to is disabling intel HD 4600 on windows the device manager but then I'm not able to change brightness nor suspend my laptop.

I tried changing the drivers but all with the same result.

I don't know what else to try but I really hope the intel HD isn't physically damaged

Please, any ideas, or suggestions on how to fix it or what to try?

Thanks!!!

Greetings,

Efra.

no matter which version but it works until next reboot...

Hello EfraAV,

Thank you for your reply and the report that you attached to the thread.

I was taking a look at your report and I found out that your drivers (OEM) are not up to date, this could be one of the reasons why you are experiencing this issue.

Here you will find our latest generic drivers for Windows 10:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27267/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?pr... https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27267/Graphics-Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-15-40-?pr...

Please go ahead and try them, as a reminder these drivers are only generic drivers, since your machine is an OEM equipment, Lenovo is in charge of customizing drivers that are going to be even better in order to troubleshoot.

You can find the latest OEM drivers here:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-y-series-laptops/y50-70-note... https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/lenovo-y-series-laptops/y50-70-note...

Please let us know the outcome.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Best Regards.

Hello again,

I've installed the generic win64_154037.4835 driver for the intel HD 4600 and I still get the same result.

About the customized driver from lenovo I'm not sure which one should I try, is it the "Intel VGA Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - Notebook -10.18.15.4279"?

Thanks!

Hello EfraAV,

Thank you for our response. I really appreciate it.

In this case, can you please go ahead and try to boot your machine in safe mode?

This way we can tell if you are experiencing and issue with drivers, or even the registry of your OS.

Here you will find how to do it:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

Please do it and monitor the results so you can let us know the outcome.

I hope this helps,

Best Regards.

Hello Diego S,

I booted my machine in safe mode and no problem with the screen, although I'm not sure if it's because of the driver for the Intel HD 4600 or the registry of my OS

How can I change the registry to test this? Since I've already tried with all the drivers I could find

Thanks, Diego

Hello EfraAV,

Thank you for your reply.

At this point since the unit is not recognizing the drivers, changing the registry of the OS could be actually worst.

The best recommendation will be to restore from a system restore point your OS, so you can go back to the original settings before the driver was updated, e probably at that point something got corrupted.

You can use this official Microsoft support article in order to perform troubleshooting:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12415/windows-10-recovery-options

Remember to back up your data before performing this type of restore.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hello EfraAV,

Thank you for your reply.

Something that has my concern right now is that even if the Ubuntu OS uses different drivers than the ones that we used and updated before (OEM and Intel) the issue remains there unless you boot the system up into "Safe mode".

Since the restore from a system restore point did not fix the issue, at the moment seems that the OS is not causing the actual behavior of your machine.

Have you tried to contact Lenovo to check for a BIOS update?

I strongly recommend you to get in touch with them and verify if there is an update for the BIOS of your machine.

Please contact us back with the outcome so we can provide more assistance if you need it.

Best regards,

Diego S.

Hello Diego!

I've just contacted lenovo support and they told me the drivers on the website you kindly gave to me are all the drivers they provide, I hoped

Then I went to the BIOS driver update which version is: 9ECN43WW(V3.0 3)

On my laptop, I ran msinfo32 to check and it was the same: Lenovo 9ECN43WW(V3.03), 12/08/2015.

Should I try to reinstall the BIOS?

Again, thanks for your help, Diego

Hello EfraAV

Thank you for your response.

In this case, reinstalling the BIOS is something that you can try, yes.

My main recommendation at this point is to get in touch with them so they can try to replicate the issue on their end, with their systems, so in that way they can discard a hardware issue or an OS issue, due to the fact that you already tried all type of drivers for your machine.

Your OEM can actually tell if you will need a replacement, and you can find their warranty services in the following link:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/warrantylookup?linkTrack=footer:Support_Warranty%20Lookup

Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

Diego S.
