Hello ,
I happen to have two Lenovo Thinkpad T510s, one with NVIDIA and the other with Intel HD Graphics video controller (both running on Windows 7 x64). I have bought a Displayport to HDMI cable and tested it with both notebooks with a Samsung TV. Video was ok, but audio did not work with the notebook with Intel HD Graphics (i.e. the NVIDIA one had no troubles at all, which implies that the cable is perfect !)
Here are all my failed attempts:
- updated the Intel HD graphics drivers to the latest available on the Intel website
- updated the sound driver to the latest available on the lenovo website
- tried out to see if there is an option to set the playback device to the TV both with windows sound options in the control panel and Smart Audio
Looking forward to your suggestions
Cheers,
Mohamed

Hi Mohamed,
You mentioned that you downloaded our drivers for GFX, and the Lenovo drivers for Audio. You should try using the GFX drivers Lenovo provides for your model, as ours are generic and may not have the same features enabled as the ones from your OEM. I located the latest video driver on your OEM site; give it a try and let me know if your audio issue is resolved or not.

Hi Nic,
I just gave that a try. Doesn't work too
I have attached a screenshot though of the control center as well as the sound settings in the control panel.
Cheers,
Mohamed
P.S. is there a way to generate some debug information that can be helpful for your analysis ?

In the sound panel, if you right click the blank space you should have an option for "Show Disabled Devices". Enable that if it isn't already. Does your TV show up as an option there?
Thanks,

Nope I already know about that
I have also checked the two options (disconnected and disabled devices)

So you are currently using your OEM video driver correct? What version from the Intel Download Center did you install earlier to test?
Thanks,

Yep. Earlier I tested it with the latest version available here:

In your picture of the Intel GFX Control Panel, it shows your Generic PnP Monitor (i.e. the TV), but isn't listing any details for it.. can you check your device manager under "Sounds, video and game controllers" and tell me if the TV is showing up in there?
Thanks,

Can you no check your other Lenovo (the one that works) and see if "High Definition Audio Device" shows up in the device manager? It looks as if the drivers for the HDMI Audio drivers are not being installed.

The other notebook lists the TV as connected ... as a reminder, the other one uses an Nvidia graphics controller. I currently haven't got access to my other notebook (since it is my work's notebook till Monday). But as far as I can remember, I checked that, and the TV is listed under sound devices as well.

Nic,
i just tested the laptop with an ubuntu 12 live cd. the sound works perfectly with my tv !
i am now certain that it is a driver issue under windows (and not a hardware issue).
i hope you can still help me though to get it working with windows
Cheers,
Mohamed

Hi Mohamed
Do you have the recovery DVD for your Lenovo system? If you could set the system back to factory condiditon that would be very helpful to determine weather the issue is with HW or SW. Also, have you contacted Lenovo?

Hi Robert_U,
I have already done that. It is clearly a software issue, because as I mentioned I have tried it under Ubuntu, and it works perfectly ! I have also contacted Lenovo, they seem to know nothing about that problem They are offering only the basic support over the phone. Today I called them and they told me to contact Intel about that OR Conexant (since the audio card is a Conexant product) .
Cheers,
Mohamed

So did the HDMI audio ever work? Or was it DOA the day you unboxed the system?
Also,, what version of Conexant Audio driver do you have installed?

I had the laptop for quite a while now. This is the first time that I connect it with a DisplayPort to HDMI cable to a TV.
The HDMI audio works perfectly under Ubuntu Linux. It has never worked under Windows though.
The installed Conexant driver is v 4.95.48.50
Cheers,
Mohamed

Mohamed,
I'm having a very similar issue with my Lenovo X220 with the Intel HD 3000 running Windows 8 64-bit. Video output to a Samsung TA350 display works fine. Audio shows up but the output is horrible with many dropped bits. When I previously spoke to Lenovo tech support they said that they supported video output only for the DisplayPort interface. Not the answer I was looking for but an answer nonetheless.
Regards,
Jerry
