Intel NUC 10 - no option for 5120 x 2160 resolution

I have the LG Ultrawide 5k2k display but the Intel UHD Graphics driver on my Intel NUC gen 10 doesn't give me the option to run 5k2k

It works with way older intel hd graphic cards - Seems like a driver problem ? any help would be appreciated?

Thank you for your response.

 

We understand your point about the full 5K resolution (5120x2880). However, as we previously pointed out, the horizontal resolution 5120 is the setting for 5K on Intel drivers and it needs two display ports to function properly. Also, this depends upon the display's capabilities. For instance, based on the Intel® Graphics report that you previously shared, (the display) it is not showing 5K resolutions as "Supported Video Modes" (based on the display's EDID information); the Max Supported Video Mode shown is "3840 x 2160 @ 60p Hz, 4K" (see image attached). Maybe this is also a fact why 2 ports are needed to have this working.

 

We understand this might work with other scenarios, but it is worth mentioning that panels with 5K and 1 display port are not supported by Intel, as they have never been verified or tested internally. Perhaps you may test by lowing the refresh rate but our recommendation is checking this with the display manufacturer for more information about the display functionality.

 

We are glad to know that you were able to achieve the desired resolution using 2 video ports and your feedback has been properly documented.

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to check this further, could you please provide the following information?


1- Did this configuration (Intel® NUC + LG Ultrawide 5k2k display) work fine before? If yes, was there any recent hardware or software change? (Windows updates, driver updates, etc?).

2- Examples of the "older Intel® HD graphic cards" that work with this LG display.

3- How are you connecting the display? Are you using a straight-through connection (e.g. DisplayPort*-to-DisplayPort*) with a single cable or are you using any type of adapter? Please provide details.

4- With the LG* display connected to the Intel® NUC, please provide a Report for Intel® Graphics Drivers following the steps on the link.

5- Also, please run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and attach the report to this thread to gather more details about your system.

  • Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer
  • Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click Next and click Save.

Hi Andrew - Thanks for replying

1) No - 1st time trying
2) For instance Intel® HD Graphics 530
3) USB-C (Thunderbolt) single cable
4) File attached
5) File attached

FYI - as a temporary work around i have added both the USB-C (Thunderbolt)  and HDMI to the same LG Display to "fill" the screen

After checking this further, based on the Technical Product Specifications for your Intel® NUC 10 Performance kit - NUC10i7FNH, sections 1.5.1.3 High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI*) and 1.5.1.4 DisplayPort* via USB Type-C, pages 4 and 5; the Intel® NUC supports an official maximum resolution of 4K@60Hz (4096x2160@60Hz for HDMI® 2.0b and 4096x2304@60Hz for DisplayPort* 1.2).


The horizontal resolution 5120 is the setting for 5K on Intel drivers. It needs two display ports to function properly. 5K with a single port is not supported by Intel and has never been verified or tested internally. However, there are scenarios (when the display supports this feature) that this configuration may work using two display ports as described in the previous link. This seems to be your case and we would say that you are lucky that this configuration (using two display ports) is working for this type of 5K resolution.


We would recommend staying with the current graphics driver and the connection setup that is working now.

Thanks for the answer

Though I have used the same setup with several desktops and laptops with integrated intel graphics card - and only 1 displayport - as this is not native 5k - but 5k2k - the previous generations did (do) work though the documentation says otherwise
