Intel UHD Graphics 770 driver and Dell UP2414Q 4K monitor

Could you please help me. When I connect via Display Port Dell UP2414Q monitor it operates OK at 4K with the refresh rate 30HZ. When I enable in the monitor menu DP1.2 setting (to set the monitor to 60HZ refresh rate, as per monitor manual), the screen splits into two separate sections in reverse order, and as for Windows 11 Pro settings, the monitor operates with the refresh rate 60HZ.

I believe the problem is with the Intel graphics driver or motherboard graphics settings, because when I connect the very same monitor to the display port output of Nvidia 1080TI card, the monitor operates at 4K 60HZ  with no problem - no split into half screen.

I have the following hardware: Intel Core i9-12900K, Asus ROG STRIX Z690-G Gaming Wi-Fi motherboard, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit, and graphics driver Version 30.0.101.1069 of 11/2/2021.

Might be I am wrong, and there are some settings in BIOS of my motherboard to properly set up the display port output of my motherboard? I was trying to find, but could not find such settings.

Excuse me for my poor English, as it is not my mother-tongue.

Hello Vitali,

We are not familiar with the Dell Display Manager app, but from the screenshot, it seems it also offers display configuration options, if you want to switch to the Intel® Graphics Command Center then please perform all configurations from this app. It is important for you to know that the driver you are using supports the MST feature through Display Port.

The Dell Display Manager could be conflicting with the Intel® Graphics Command Center, please try uninstalling one of these tools and try hot-plugging the monitor after it has been set in the OSD as DP 1.2.

Also please share with us the following information:

When connecting the monitor in DP 1.2 mode, should it be set as extended or clone mode? Ideally, the monitor manufacturer could shed some light in this regard.

Hello Josue,

1) I have uninstalled Dell Display Manager and rebooted.

2) I started Intel Graphics Command Center, and first made three screenshots of information provided at 30HZ by Intel Graphics Command Center which I am attaching.

3) After that I switched on in my monitor DP 1.2 mode. I had the split screen. I am attaching three photos of information at 60HZ by Intel Graphics Command Center. Please pay attention to differences in information between 30HZ and 60HZ

4) After that, when operating at 60HZ with the split screen, I hot-unplugged and hot-plugged back the display port cable. The monitor started to operate normally at 60HZ refresh rate without the split screen.

5) I have rebooted the computer and again the split screen at 60HZ.

6) When connecting the monitor in DP 1.2 mode there is no option to set is either as extended or clone mode (this option is not provided by Dell).

Sincerely,

Vitali

Hello Vitali,

Thank you for the information provided, in this case, it seems the issue is caused by compatibility, our recommendation is to check with the OEM to get assistance with compatibility issues.

From our side, we can confirm that the driver is capable of handling MST displays, it is important for you to know that we have not received other reports regarding this type of issue.

Hello Josue,

Unfortunately I do not understand who is OEM in my case. I am using the latest generation processor with internal GPU from Intel, Asus motherboard with the latest Intel chipset and Dell monitor.

In my case the monitor operates OK at 60HZ with the very same hardware if:

1) I use Nvidia Video Card and Driver (external video card)

2) If I use internal video card (IGP) from Intel and Microsoft Basic Video driver

And the monitor does not operate correctly at 60HZ if:

I use Intel Video Driver.

And I do not understand in this case, who should I ask for help? I called Dell support, the support told me that if the monitor operates correctly at 60HZ with the basic Microsoft driver and (or) with Nvidia GPU, the problem is related to the implementation of Intel Video Driver. Or should I address Asus support?

Thank You anyway for all the troubles I caused.

I will try to replace the monitor in the near future (and I hope that Samsung 4K HDR monitor will be compatible with Intel Driver) or buy a Nvidia GPU (unfortunately they are too expensive now).

And I am afraid to make a mistake, if a new monitor will not operate correctly at 60HZ with Intel IGP.

Sincerely,

Vitali

PS

I found the information that Nvidia Drivers in 2013 had the same compatibility 60HZ DP1.2 issue (split screen) but the problem has been resolved with the correction of their driver in 2014.

In the simplest cases ( Power On - initial loading, Microsoft Basic Display Driver, also automatically used in Safe Mode

the role of the driver is played by the Intel Video BIOS and does it correctly.

In 00.jpg - 08.jpg additional very interesting information must be in sheet "Adapter", button "List All Modes" at last strings with

max resolution. You may check this monitor with previous Core 11 Generation Processors at 60 Hz. Intel Core 12 Generation processors and graphics are very new. Of course, you can imagine that the new driver became more strict and he was not satisfied with the DisplayID block of your display or became more strict in some places with general agreement on 4K resolution. Each EDID block has a checksum and cannot change in a subtle way.

Hello Vitali,

In this case, we have confirmed that our drivers support 4K@60hz fine over DP 1.2 and 1.4 thus the issue seems to be compatibility with the Dell monitor. Please provide me screenshots of the Intel® Graphics Command center under the display configuration options while using 4k@60hz with DP 1.2.

After analyzing the screenshots provided from the Windows display configuration, we can see that the display is set as 3840x2160@60hz, so we were wondering if the issue is only after rebooting. If so, this could indicate a missing EDID configuration. For this please try loading the monitor's inf driver provided by Dell.

Hello Josue,

I have no idea why, but my account has been disabled. That is why I did not answer yesterday. I am attaching the image of this warning. I have submitted the proper form to restore the account, but so far received no answer. I had to register a new account with a new e-mail to have the possibility to answer you.

Regarding the Dell monitor split screen issue I am attaching the files you requested, and definitely I was using the latest proper Dell inf monitor driver (the only one of 2013).

Regarding my issue I found a solution - I have bought a new 4K monitor - LG 27UP850-W USB Type-C, which is not using tile system  and operates with no problem. It is better quality than Dell's monitor in all respects so now I am satisfied.

The only question I have regarding the new monitor and graphics driver that is the color depth. That is 10 bit color depth monitor, but Windows shows that it is operating at 8 bit color. How could I change this value to 10 bit with Intel Graphics Command Center or Windows? I could not find this option.

Sincerely,

Vitali

It is worth noting that if the main graphics driver for any reason can not start and work correctly (for example, not enough memory) then Windows simply uses the "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" with the appearance of a notification in the right bottom corner of screen and
this notification is added to the notification list. IGCC should be highly appreciated for allowing you to see the problem much better in this case than other similar programs. All the problems with this display have long been solved

I have a similar problem.

Intel UHD 770 graphics on ASUS Z690-F mobo.

Using Display Port I can only see the BIOS. If I start Window 10 I get a blank screen using the Display Port, but using HDMI it works fine.

The monitor is an ASUS PB27UQ 4K 3840x2160.

In my Windows Registry I have exactly the same "BAD_EDID" in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\DISPLAY\Default_Monitor\1&8713bca&0&UID0\Device Parameters.

This is an incredibly valuable case for Intel Corp., possibly showing that the processing of display data
occurs in several places and this may well happen in different ways.

Hello Vitali,

Thank you for the information provided, to set the color depth of your system, please try following our article "How Do I Set Color Depth or Color Format in the Intel® Graphics Command Center?"

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000087657.html

Let me know if you are able to configure the display with the 10-bit color depth.

Hello Josue,

my account has been unblocked, thanks! My new monitor is connected to my computer via Display Port cable. If I start "media player classic" to watch 4K HDR movie, the system automatically switches to 10-bit color depth. If I stop the movie, it switches back to 8-bit color depth. I have downloaded and installed Intel® Graphics Command Center Beta, but as I understood, it permits to control color depth only in case of HDMI connection.

May be in future Intel will introduce this control for Display Port connection?

But in general I am very satisfied with the operation and speed of my new computer, this new platform by Intel is really a big step forward, with all the new standards implemented - DDR5 memory, and, I hope, PCI-E 5. I am planning later to add to my system pci_e 5 NVME disks when available.

Sincerely,

Vitali

PS

If there be a solution in future for split screen Dell monitor, please inform me, I will be using it then as a second monitor.
