Inter Graphics HD 3000 driver v15.28.20.64.3347 crashing and restarting on Windows 7 Pro x64

Hello,

So here is my problem : I recently updated my intel graphic drivers to the last available version for my computer. But the driver keeps crashing randomly, after a few display glitches. Sometimes I'm in a game that is not even using Intel Graphics (I have a NVidia in parallel), sometimes I'm just opening a web browser, or watching a video in it (happened with both Chrome and Firefox), sometimes it happens even before I logged into my session at the starting screen...

What exactly happen when it crashes : my screen start glitching, turning on and off certain lines of pixels, freezing on a unique colour, then completely switch off. Sometimes it restart by itself, sometimes I have to close the screen of the laptop and reopen it to trig the restart (as I configured closing the screen as "switch on/off the screen"). And if I'm logged on a session a pop-up of Windows Action Center tell me that "the driver of Intel Graphics HD 3000 for Windows 8 crashed and have been restored".

So I would like to know what I could do to stop those random crashes, and maybe what is the last stable version of the driver for Windows 7 x64 so that I can install the old one.

Thanks to precise if any other informations are needed to help me with this problem.

Hi Geneosis,

Based on your description, I recommend you updating the BIOS and the Management Engine by using the drivers provided by the Computer manufacturer.

You can install our generic drivers for your controller by downloading it at the following link:

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23377&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09%09Drivers%0A%09%09%09%09%09%09

It is important for you to install the driver for the video graphics card in your system. In the case that you are still having problems, contact the computer manufacturer for them to help you with the special configuration in your system.

Okay, will try the BIOS update.

About the generic drivers, the link you give me is the one currently installed on my computer "This driver package contains version 15.28.20.64.3347 (9.17.10.3347) for Windows 7/8/8.1".

I didn't give the version number in my precedent post but some other reference sorry.

I updated the BIOS, this had no visible effect : glitches and crashes are still present...

So what else could I do ? The version of the graphic driver is the most up to date.

Could it be a hardware problem ?

I found some potential help on this topic :

I got the exact same error as mentioned here, and it seems that the problem come from a conflict between Windows Aero and HD graphics and it seems that disabling Aero temporary fix the problem... But this is not helping on my computer, even without Aero the graphic acceleration still crashes.

Hi Geneosis,

Thanks for the feedback on this matter. From our side, I can also recommend you power cycling the unit by disconnecting the battery and pressing the power button for about 20- seconds if you have a laptop. If you have a desktop system, clear the cmos by removing the battery for about 20- minutes.

Since you have tested the generic driver from our side, the best option is to contact the computer manufacture for them to diagnose the unit.

Hi again Kevin,

Thanks for your answers, I did the power cycling, will see if that helped.

Sadly I will not get many help from the manufacturer as my computer is now out of warranty... Will try to post my problem on their forums too anyway.

Just to give some news : the power clycling seems to have reduced a bit the rate of the crashes, but they still randomly appears. Some day it's okay and nothing happen, some other day it crashes 3 times in a row 😕

Hi Geneosis,

I am sorry to hear the issue persists.

At this point, since you have tested our latest graphics driver, you should try with their support because it does not seem to be a software issue.
