Hi,
I love this game and actually purchased it last year when it was released with steam, I just play skirmishes with the computer. I upgraded my laptop(MacBook pro retinal to one with HD540 graphics but the display driver crashes when ever I get a few battle cruisers going with several fighters and frigates or large battle scenes. other things work flawlessly like mass effect, oblivion and starcraft 2. I have tried the following with the steam app but with no luck I have reinstalled the drivers. I am currently running 20.19.15.4501
I verified the game integrity,
set TDR delay
disabled TDR
reinstall microsoft visual c++ 2012
ran as administrator
let the troubleshooter run as windows 8 and windows 7
turned all the graphics down to minimum
tried different video resolutions
changed intel HD graphic settings:
Application optimal mode -diabled
multi-sample anti-aliasing -turn off
Conservatave mophographical anti-aliasing -turn off
general setting -performance This is on a Lenovo yoga 900s running
intel Core I7 6560 CPU
16 GB ram
samsung 512 gb ssd I also had the same problem with a dell xps 13 with the same CPU.I also tried the GOG.com version and I experience the same problem. I never had problems with this game on HD4000 graphics

Hello mattbeau,
Thank you for joining the Graphics Community.
I upgraded my laptop(MacBook pro retinal to one with HD540 graphics but the display driver crashes when ever I get a few battle cruisers going with several fighters and frigates or large battle scenes.
What kind of crash do you get? Do you see any error message? Can you take a screenshot of the error?
Are you using Windows® 10?
The recommended settings for this game are https://gameplay.intel.com/GamesSettings/6783/91163/Intel%C2%AE%20Core%E2%84%A2%20i7-6560U%20Processor%20(4M%20Cache,%20up%20to%203.20%20GHz) Games Settings, this is based in your graphics controller. Can you please check if these are the same you are using?
Regards,
Amy.

Yes. It's windows 10. Yes I followed the settings on both pages. I can usually get it to crash when a mother ship blows up and I'm close by. It will freeze but i can still hear the game playing on. I can it the window key and force close it.

It really did, thank you for the video.
There is a new driver available from our end, please give it a try; https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26305/Intel-Beta-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-10-and-Windows-7-8-1-15-40-?product=88358 Download Intel® Beta Graphics Driver for Windows® 10 and Windows 7*/8.1* [15.40]. Since you have change some settings in the driver I would recommend setting them back to default before the installation.
Regards,
Amy.

Thankyou,
After making all the changes listed above and not having any success, I went to a clean install. I've installed the new driver and disabled driver verification to load it
Unfortunately it crashes in the same manner.

/thread/106994 mattbeau,
Could you please attach your graphics report? See here for the instructions on how to get it; http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/graphics-drivers/000005848.html Report for Intel® Graphics Drivers. This will help gathering more information in regard to your system.
To attach a file, you must click "Use Advanced Editor" in the top right corner of the response box, then the "attach" option will appear in the bottom right corner of the response box.
Thank you.
Regards,
Amy.

Matt, I apologize for the delay.
We are still working on this issue. In the meantime, we released a new Production driver for 6th Generation graphics. Please try it out and let us know if it makes any difference:

Yes please, provide your DxDiag, DispDiag and SSU report, see below the instructions on how to get these reports;
Intel SSU (System Support Utility): (Note - This is a new Intel tool that will eventually incorporate gathering all the data needed in one click. Targeting end of year to be fully featured. Until then, please provide the DxDiag and DispDiag as well)
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility Download Intel® System Support Utility
- Download the utility
- Run the exe and select 'Scan'
- Save and include as an attachment int he Intel Community Forum
DxDiag Instructions:
- Click on the "Start Menu" -> Type "DxDiag" -> Press "Enter" -> Wait for the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to finish loading
- In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click "Save All Information" -> Save the file DxDiag.txt
- Include DxDiag.txt as an attachment in the Intel Community Forum
DispDiag Instructions:
- Click on the "Start Menu" -> Type "cmd" -> Then a command shell window will open
- In the command shell, type "dispdiag -out %homepath%\Desktop\DispDiag-Intel-Issue.dat" -> The command shell will output something similar to "Dump File: C:\Users\[username]\DispDiag-# -# -# -# .dat"
- Locate the .dat file on your desktop and include DispDiag-Intel-Issue.dat in the Intel Community Forum
Thank you very much for your collaboration.
Regards,
Amy.

Hello Matt,
We used the savedgame file you sent, and we were able to reproduce the game hanging issue within minutes. I guess we were not deploying enough units in our previous tests!
Upon tweaking and experimenting with different game options, we were able to fix the hanging issue in our test lab. This was done by configuring the video graphics settings to match what is recommended here:
https://gameplay.intel.com/GamesSettings/8827/88189/intel-core-i5-6600t-processor-br-6m-cache-up-to-3-50-ghz- https://gameplay.intel.com/GamesSettings/8827/88189/intel-core-i5-6600t-processor-br-6m-cache-up-to-3-50-ghz-
After matching the video settings as recommended in the link, we loaded the same savedgame (named "right before crash") several times, destroyed most of the existing CPU controlled units and experienced no game hanging.
Can you give it a round of testing and let us know if it works for you?
Note: our test computer consists of Intel NUC using Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6260U with Iris(TM) Graphics 540 and 16GB of DDR4 memory. In addition, we already installed the newest driver: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26404/Intel-Graphics-Driver-15-45- https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/26404/Intel-Graphics-Driver-15-45- so I'll suggest installing this one.
