Monitor resolution 5120 x 1440 on UHD Graphics 620

Hi,

I have a QSM 49" 32:9 Ultra Wide Curved monitor which I'm trying to run on my Asus laptop with an Intel(R) UHD Graphics 620 through a single HDMI.

The required resolution of 5120 x 1440 is not a selectable option.

Is there a way to run this monitor at the required resolution or do I need a dock and split across 2 HDMI's and use it as dual monitors?

Thanks

Adam

Hi Adam_W, Thank you very much for your response.

According to the specifications of the Intel® Core™ i7-8565U processor, the max resolution supported by the HDMI port with a straight connection not using adapters nor converters is 4096 x 2304@24Hz, as you can confirm here:

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/149091/intel-core-i78565u-processor-8m-cache-up-to-4-60-ghz.html

Page 49:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/docs/processors/core/8th-gen-core-family-datasheet-vol-1.html

Based on the details shown in the Intel® graphics report, it states that the max resolution for your specific platform, as you mentioned previously is: 3840 x 2160 (24p Hz, 4K)

3840 x 2160 (25p Hz, 4K)

3840 x 2160 (30p Hz, 4K)

3840 x 2160 (50p Hz, 4K)

3840 x 2160 (60p Hz, 4K)

So, to answer your question, unfortunately, it will not be possible to use the 5120 x 1440 resolution on this machine, but you should be able to use 4096 x 2304@24Hz.

In the SSU document, we can confirm that the graphics driver currently installed on your computer is version 30.0.100.9955, which is a driver provided by Intel®.

We always recommend to install the graphics driver provided by the manufacturer of the computer, since that driver was customized by them to work with your specific platform.

In order to try to get the 4096 x 2304@24Hz resolution, we can try to do a clean installation of the graphics driver provided by ASUS, version V27.20.100.8681, following the instructions in the links below:

https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/For-Home/Everyday-use/ASUS-X509/HelpDesk_Download/?model2Name=ASUS-Laptop-15-X509FA

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000057389/graphics.html

Or, even though the Intel® graphics drivers are generic and they might or might not work with your platform, for testing purposes, we can do a clean installation this time of the Intel® generic graphics driver version 30.0.101.1069 and then verify if now you are able to use the 4096 x 2304@24Hz resolution:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19344/intel-graphics-windows-dch-drivers.html?

We also advise to get in contact directly with ASUS support to make sure the latest BIOS version is currently installed in your laptop or to gather the instructions on how to do that:
https://www.asus.com/support/

Adam_W, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

In order for us to provide the most accurate assistance in reference to your question, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your system:

What is the model of the laptop?

Is this a new computer?

When did you purchase it?

Were you able to use the 5120 x 1440 resolution on this same computer before with this or with another monitor?

What is the max resolution that you are allowed to select?

When did the issue start?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes?

Which Windows* version are you using?

Does the problem happen at home or in the work environment?

While the monitor is connected to the laptop, please run and attach the SSU report and the Intel® graphics report so we can verify further details about the components in your platform, check all the options in the report including the one that says "3rd party software logs":

Kind of late but I can use 5120 x 1440@60hz over DP via the usb-c port on my inspiron 7373,

over hdmi it shows the resolution available to pick but it doesn't work.

3840x1080 does work over hdmi so there is no issue with the aspect ratio.
