Hi all
Im buying a new laptop and I'm not so good with tech and need some advice please! I plan to use it for office tasks like excel, and light gaming (old games really). They seem to have lowered the base clock for the new 8th gen processors
I have 2 choices -
1) i5-8250u, gpu: 940mx 4gb gddr5
2) i7-8550u, same gpu as 1)
I would like to get the i5 version, my question is will the i5 version run well/normally with this gpu? The base clock is 1.6 boosting to 3.4. If no, is it worth getting the i7 version? I mean there seems to be only a slight performance increase (base clock of 1.8 and boosting to 4.0). Does the base clock really matter given the boost? Like I say, I would prefer to get the i5 version.
Thanks

In singlethread stuff Core i7 might be 10-15% faster due to the higher ST Turbo, Multithread should be the same basically (both are TDP limited at 15W).

There is a good test. But of course it can vary because it depends on the cooling as well. But I would try to get a notebook with 8GB of RAM and the much newer and faster MX150 based on Nvidias Pascal generation.

There nothing better than Intel CPU and nvidia GPU...
for gaming you should have i7 cpu from Intel & i would suggest "Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti"
you can also find some useful information at this website https://www.experthoot.com/best-gaming-laptop/
don't go for i5 your game might lag if you use i5 even with the best available gpu.

If you want to go safe with laptops, get a decent, affordable gaming laptop. Gaming Laptops can run everything and anything you wanted. Considering the amount of data processing, consider 8GB RAM and 6GB GPU, Nvidia GTX or RTX series, whichever sets in your budget. 2.4GHz Intel Core i7 is recommended for future proofing as well. Here are some gaming laptops you can check https://www.thetechtoys.com/best-gaming-laptops-under-1-lakh/. For gaming laptop, you just need a good GPU and good Motherboard.
