Only 30Hz 4K with i5-13500h

I have just purchased an Intel i5-13500h CPU-based PC and hooked it up with my Philips OLED805 TV and when I set the color depth to 12-bit I can not select higher than 30Hz refresh rates

When I connect my AMD based PC to the same TV I can select 60Hz with 12-bit color depth

Can you please advise?

In the meantime this issue got solved:
I have cleared the BIOS CMOS then in the Intel Graphics Command Center I hit the Reset button that is next to the dropdown where I can select the color space.
Since then I am able to have 60Hz 4:2:0 but now I have the option to select 24Hz too! (Previously I could only select 60Hz, 59Hz and 50Hz)
I am sending the AMD card back

  • Are you using any type of adapter to connect the PC to the TV?
  • Is it possible for you to test with a different video output?
  • Was there any software or hardware update before the issue started?
  • We would like to have more details about your system. Please, share with us the system reports using the following:
  • Intel®️ System Support Utility (Intel®️ SSU)
    • Open the application and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel®️ SSU will take you to the "Summary View."
    • Click on the menu where it says: "Summary" to change it to "Detailed View."
    • To save your scan: click "Next"; then "Save."
  • Intel® Graphics Command Center:
    • Open the Intel Graphics Command Center
    • Navigate to the Support tab
    • Select System Diagnostic
    • Click Generate Report
    • Select Save and name the output file.

Hi Jean,

 

Thanks for coming back to me.

I am not using any adapters, I am connecting the PC to my TV with an HDMI 2.1 cable. If I use the same cable to connect the same TV to a different PC then there is no issue with 4K 60Hz 12-bit.

This is a new PC so the issue has always been there.

Please see attached both reports.

Thank you for the information provided. Based on the system information, we noticed that you have installed the graphics driver 31.0.101.4648. Based on this, we would recommend you perform a clean driver installation for the latest graphics driver listed on the AsRock website, 31.0.101.3302_2. It is important to mention that there are two different types of drivers, generics provided by Intel and Equipment Manufacturer drivers, that are customized to work with each specific system. The best thing to do is to use the drivers provided by the system manufacturer (OEM) to eliminate the potential impact caused by loading non-custom drivers.

I have performed a clean install of the Asrock driver but still I have the same issue....

Please try the following settings as described here:

1. Set "Color Format" to YCBCR_420
2. Set the refresh rate to 60 Hz
3. Set the "Color Depth" to BPC_12

This results in a signal with a bandwidth of 13.37 Gbps. The HDMI port on the motherboard can support a maximum of 18 Gbps.

That works but then I am limited to 60, 59 and 50Hz only; I cannot change to 24Hz for 4K movies

Just out of curiosity I have installed a dedicated GPU (AMD RX7600) to see what happens

When I switch to 3120x2160 resolution the screen goes blank....

The TV is fine, it works perfectly with another PC

I am wondering, can it happen that the Asrock motherboard is somehow limiting the output, even when a GPU is installed?

I can hardly imagine that the new GPU is to be blamed

Please also try playing with the TV settings to understand the behavior:

This TV has HDMI ports with a maximum bandwidth of 18 Gbps, which are operated using a Transition-minimized differential signaling (TMDS) protocol. According to the diagnostic data you attached, the TV also supports HDR10, Dolby Vision and HLG. These features were previously collectively referred to as "HDMI 2.0b".

 

If you set the TV to "Standard" for a particular HDMI port, the TV tells the source device via EDID that it accepts a maximum of 9 Gbps. The source can then only send the following:

  • 4K @ 30Hz RGB 4:4:4 8-bit
  • 4K @ 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0 8-bit

 

If set to "Optimal" then:

  • 4K @ 60 Hz RGB 4:4:4 8-bit = 18 Gbps
  • 4K @ 30 Hz RGB 4:4:4 12-bit = 13.37 Gbps
  • 4K @ 60 Hz YCbCr 4:2:0 12-bit = 13.37 Gbps
  • 4K @ 60 Hz RGB 4:4:4 12-bit = 24.06 Gbps = NOT possible
  • 4K @ 60 Hz RGB 4:4:4 10-bit = 20.05 Gbps = NOT possible
  • 4K @ 60 Hz YCbCr 4:2:2 12-bit = 17.82 Gbps = possible in terms of bandwidth but not supported by Intel hardware. But possibly from the AMD graphics card. However, the so-called chroma subsampling in 4:2:2 is not common. You don't really need this. If you want to read pixel-perfect text, choose 4:4:4 with a low refresh rate or with 8-bit color depth. If you want to watch videos with HDR and 60 Hz, then choose YCbCr 4:2:0 12-bit. Depending on the playback software, the HDMI output is also automatically adapted to the media format (e.g. Kodi Media Center).

 

You can check the signal in the Windows operating system as follows:

Select Start > Settings > System > Display

There’s a link labeled Advanced display settings. This takes you to a second page where you can view the attributes for each monitor. At the top is a drop-down menu listing your displays. Choose the one you want to check if you are using more than one display.

 

I'm not aware of a motherboard that could degrade a dedicated graphics card's display output capabilities.
