Resolution problem LG-25UM58 (cannot reach 2560x1080 max res), on Asus X453MA

Hello. I've just bought an ultra-wide LG monitor, LG-25UM58 (not the -P version). And it can reach only the resolution of 1920x1080@60Hz, when it should reach a res of 2560x1080@60Hs.

I use an HDMI cable to connect the notebook and the monitor.

I've looked for duplicates for this poblem on this site, but all the cases have been unhelpful.

Thanks in advance.

I've tried to follow the instructions in the provided link.

I cannot execute the C:\Windows\System32\CustomModeApp.exe The file is unresponsive when I left click on it. I've tried to run it as administrator. Then the "User Account Control" security feature from Windows 10 pops up, asking me if I want to allow the app make changes on my device. I accept, but after doing so, nothing happens.

I've also tried the CRU app without success. https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU https://www.monitortests.com/forum/Thread-Custom-Resolution-Utility-CRU

Any idea what's the problem here and what can I do to solve it?

I've also found this interesting information:

https://superuser.com/questions/922352/laptop-does-not-support-monitor-native-resolution-2560x1080?rq=1 amd radeon - laptop does not support monitor native resolution (2560x1080) - Super User

https://superuser.com/questions/1329172/hdmi-1-4-and-2560x1080?rq=1 ubuntu - HDMI 1.4 and 2560x1080 - Super User

I have a HighSpeed/HEC HDMI cable. I suspect that my notebook's HDMI port just does not supper the kind of output my monitor needs.

PS. I've changed the permissions on the .exe file without any improvement.

Update. I've contacted to Asus. They've informed me that the HDMI version of my notebook is 1.4 and supports a maximum resolution of 2500x1600.

Hello carloswm,

Thank you for joining the Intel Communities.

Please install the monitor driver from this link http://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=CYlWK6roxoWqQLYLkfR6w http://gscs-b2c.lge.com/downloadFile?fileId=CYlWK6roxoWqQLYLkfR6w

If issue persists I would like you to try clean installation of the graphics driver.

Please download the graphics driver that is on this link, but do not install it yet https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27417/a08/win64_15.33.46.4885.zip https://downloadmirror.intel.com/27417/a08/win64_15.33.46.4885.zip

Once the graphics driver has been downloaded follow the next steps:

  1. Disconnect the computer from the Internet.
  2. Right click on Start button, and then click on Device Manager.
  3. Double click on Display Adapters -> Intel® HD Graphics -> Driver tab, and select Uninstall -> Select the check box Delete the driver software for this device.
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Go back to Device Manager -> Display Adapters, and check if the operating system reinstalled a graphics driver. If Windows reinstalled another graphics driver go back to Step 3 until you get the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.
  6. Reinstall the graphics driver using the steps that are on this link https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005629/graphics-drivers.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005629/graphics-drivers.html
  7. Enable Internet connection.

If issue persists reply to this email with the Intel Graphics Driver Report. Please run the report with the LG 25UM58 monitor connected to the computer. This link will show you how to generate the report https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005848/graphics-drivers.html https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005848/graphics-drivers.html

Hello,

I am facing a very similar problem with LG 29WK500 (Ultrawide, 2560x1080 21:9) in Linux (Fedora 32, 33, Ubuntu 20.04).

https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/Maximum-resolution-not-being-detected-Linux-driver-i915-and/td-p/1212593

Strangely the same monitor, cable and software works fine in a notebook with a Intel Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520] but not in a Iris Plus Graphics G1 (Ice Lake). Maybe it is an i915 driver issue?

Also, the wrong detection happens both in X11 and Wayland, but in X11 at least is possible to manually force 2560x1080 and it works. But I've tried several methods to make it work in recent wayland distros without success.

EDID reading is the same in both cases.

Environment: https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=9211f8faa5

Any help is appreciated!

Best regards,

Mario

Hi!

I have the same issue on a Lenovo Notebook L560 with Intel HD Graphics 520 (i5-6300U) and 16 GB of RAM + 128 GB of SSD disk.

I just added a monitor LG 29wk500 (21:9) and cannot use the 2560x1080 resolution)
The Graphic Card do not allow more than 1920x1080.

     How to fix it?
Is there a patch from Intel?

THX!

Didn't receive any support from Intel, nor Lenovo. Shi*** linux support from both of them. Hope they enjoy their Windows/OSX userbase (now both moving to arm... lol).

I discovered that "legacy boot support" being enabled in BIOS triggered the issue. Even if not concretely used and still booting in UEFI.

I could solve it using the "pure UEFI" mode (with a recent Fedora 33 distro). Full logs posted here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/2518

Check if your BIOS has a setting for UEFI only / Pure UEFI and boot a live distro. In my case it was not required to change monitor/cable/distro.

Cheers

Mario
