When playing game KraiSoft Jigsaw Puzzle Lite 2 strange artifacts are appearing on the screen. The game is utilizing only 2D functions. Issue reveals some strange behavior of Intel Iris Xe GDI graphics implementation.

This issue is happening with every driver version. Is was with one delivered by Lenovo with laptop and sequentially every other Intel Iris Xe driver from November 2022.

Hello EndangeredGDImethods,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We will be more than glad to help you with the artifacts issue when playing KraiSoft Jigsaw Puzzle Lite 2.

You mentioned that the issue did not occur on older Intel UHD Graphics. Does it mean that you tried the game on an older device? If so, which is the processor model of the working device?

We understand that you tried using the Lenovo drivers. However, we would like to recommend you try a clean driver installation for the latest driver from Lenovo, 31.0.101.1999. Please note that installing this Intel generic graphics driver will overwrite any customized driver from your Computer Manufacturer (OEM). OEM drivers are handpicked, customized, and validated to resolve platform-specific issues, enable features and enhancements, and improve system stability. Intel’s generic graphics drivers are intended for testing, and we recommend using drivers from the system manufacturer (OEM).

Based on the reports, we noticed that you are running the Windows 11 build 10.0.22000. Since this is an outdated version, we suggest you install all the necesarry Windows updates you have pending and update the Operating System to their build 22621

Hello Jean O.

thank you for reply.

Regarding your instructions I have tried with clean driver installation with Lenovo driver version 31.0.101.1999 and situation is the same, i.e. deep in GDI some masking / alpha channel operations are not working correctly and the black rectangles are still present.

I have also after suggested driver version installation and updated Windows 11 to latest available updates. Unfortunately it happens again, i.e. strange black rectangles are still present suggesting that GDI some masking / alpha channel operations are not working correctly.

Additionally I have tried the game with Microsoft Legacy Display Driver and while resolution was lower the issue with black rectangles artifacts disappeared.

Kind regards

Hello EndangeredGDImethods,

We appreciate your patience.

When researching this matter, we noticed that the game is available on multiple websites. Could you confirm which website you got the game from?

Also, this game has additional puzzle packs. We would like to ask if this issue happens on additional puzzles or in the whole game.

Hello Jean O.

thank you for reply.

I have provided the link to the game in the "Graphics bug report (2).docx".

Please find it here for easier access:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vfVTA8mt8VLs1BOybiY2_72f1u7zGXzt/view?usp=share_link

The game doesn't need installation process, just unzip it anywhere and start "puzzle.exe".

The issue happens in whole game independently of size of the puzzle element, i.e. it is not connected to size of mask bitmap. To support your troubleshooting and debug process I have taken videos of 6 element puzzles, please check the provided links.

Correct (other Intel graphics chips):

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fzX09D2CWEAb_kF33kGrdBxI15Sc40Xr/view?usp=share_link

Issue (Intel IRIS Xe graphics chip):

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1aXVzuW8ziuL63V69dh2hOzgVPV67GJC0/view?usp=share_link

However issue happens even with 1000+ puzzles where bitmap mask is probably less than 16x16 pixels. Issue happens with built in puzzles and additional puzzles.

Kind regards

Hello EndangeredGDImethods,

Thanks for your patience, we have tried to replicate the issue internally, and unfortunately, we couldn't replicate the issue. Take a look at the video we recorded, and let us know if we missed something.

Since this issue doesn't seem to be related to the graphics driver, we recommend you contact the game developer for further support.
