UHD 7x0 and Game Sharpening Feature

It's an awesome feature for who plays @1280x720 on a "big" screen, but it's only available for D3D11 and D3D12 games! Can you extend the support to D3D9, OpenGL and Vulkan games/engine?

 

The same for Anisotropic Filtering forcing, it seems to me that it doesn't work on D3D9 games (no OpenGL or Vulkan game tested - Vulkan games have of course the AF setting in-game)

In order to check this further, could you please provide more details about this request?

1- When you said "UHD 7x0" do you mean Intel® UHD Graphics 750/730?

2- Are you talking about the Game Sharpening option available in Intel® Graphics Command Center?

3- Are you having issues with specific games? If yes, could you please elaborate more about those issues/behaviors and provide examples of the games involved in this matter?

4- Please provide a Report for Intel® Graphics Drivers following the steps on the below link.

5- Run the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU) and provide us with the report in case we need to gather more details about the system:

  • Download the Intel® SSU and save the application on your computer
  • Open the application, check the "Everything" checkbox, and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. The Intel® SSU defaults to the "Summary View" on the output screen following the scan. Click the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".
  • To save your scan, click Next and click Save.
  • Once you have saved the file (.txt file), please attach it to your reply.

To upload and attach a file, use the "Drag and drop here or browse files to attach" option below the response textbox.

->Yes!

 

2- Are you talking about the Game Sharpening option available in Intel® Graphics Command Center?

->Yes!

-> Issue is "feature not working in D3D9, Vulkan or OpenGL" engine/engine path.

Example: Anisotropic Filtering forcing in Halo 2 (through Intel Command Center) simply not working, no Anisotropic Filtering applied.

The same for the sharpening.

In D3D11/12 applications the sharpening is perfectly working. You can see a "complete" case in Talos Principle, having D3D11/12 rendering path AND Vulkan rendering path: former choice -> sharpening working - latter choice -> sharpening NOT working.

Thank you for your patience in this matter.


In regards to the requests, we would like to share the following information:

  • Anisotropic Filtering is supported on OpenGL through extensions "GL_EXT_texture_filter_anisotropic" and "GL_ARB_texture_filter_anisotropic" so the game code must know how to implement it as well. 
  • For D3D9 there might be compatibility issues as this is now a legacy API and we only support it as compatibility mode.

 

Have you tested with another game or is it just with Halo 2? If you can share examples or detailed steps to reproduce the behavior we may be able to identify if this is a bug or a compatibility issue.

You can just test the widely popular and played Portal 2 (or any Source Engine D3D9 based game) and see the same behaviour.

Just remember to set the in-game texture filtering option to Trilinear and force the AF 16x through the Intel Command Center.

 

Result: No AF applied.

 

Of course it's no big deal if the game can let you set the AF in-game, Halo 2 (Vista) simply lacks the option (in-game or in its configurations files) as many other older d3d9 games, so the "forcing" is a welcome feature.....if working.

After reviewing this, we would like to inform you that in the current Intel® Graphics Command Center and future releases the support for DX9 games is limited and handled in compatibility mode, thus, it is expected that some options may not work as expected.

We have forwarded this feedback to the Intel® Graphics Command Center team for consideration but we can't promise any outcome or fix anytime soon.
