Visual Artifact Issue in Spider-Man Remastered (Intel Arc B580)

I'm having identical visual artifacts during explosions identical to what is described here:

https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/Visual-Artifact-Issue-in-Spider-Man-Remastered-Intel-Arc-B580/m-p/1700746/highlight/true?profile.language=de

There is a screenshot in the above link identical to what I am seeing. There are a few posts with this issue and they all seem to have B580s.

When did the issue first occur?
I first noticed it in the helicopter scene where you have to stop it, a lot of explosions happen there
Have you made any software or hardware changes to the system recently? No
Have you noticed any signs of overheating in the system? No
Are you using the latest Intel Arc driver version? Yes
Have you attempted a clean driver installation using a tool like DDU to ensure no remnants of previous drivers are causing conflicts? I did this when I installed my B580 but have not since, only intel drivers are on my PC.
Are there any other applications running in the background that might interfere with the game's performance or graphics rendering?
No
Does the issue occur consistently after a specific in-game event or location, or is it purely time-based?
Occurs during explosions.
Have you tried reinstalling the game completely to rule out corrupted game files?
No, other forum posts that have this issue tried that to no avail.
On which digital distribution platform did you install Spider-Man Remastered (eg, Steam, Epic Games Store)?
Steam

Hello marrero504,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

To better understand your issue and provide you with the most effective solution, I'll need some additional information from you:

  1.  Please generate and share an Intel SSU report from your system - this will help us analyze the issue more thoroughly
  2. Make and model of your display/monitor.
  3. Are you using direct connections (such as HDMI to HDMI) or are you using any converters or adapters?
  4. Please provide the make and model of your power supply unit (PSU).
  5. If you're experiencing graphics corruption or visual artifacts, please capture screenshots or record a video demonstrating the problem using a third-party application, or alternatively, take photos/videos with your phone or camera. • Please describe the exact steps needed to reproduce this issue - this detail is crucial
  6. Tell us the steps to reproduce the issue (this is very important!).

I look forward to your response with this information.

Best regards,

JeanetteC.

I attached the 2 files as requested.

Monitor: MSI MAG275QF

I am using a display port connection with no adapters.

PSU:  CORSAIR RM650 80 Plus Gold Fully Modular Low-Noise ATX 3.1 PCIe 5.1 650 Watt Power Supply - NA - Black

For reproducing them, they occur during explosions.  The most prevalent time they appear is during the helicopter mission when you are running through the building and the artifacts appear consistently.  This is the mission: Straw, Meet Camel.  A good example would be playing the section starting at 12:43 through 13:05 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BctmSf-eLgA&t=762s (Although this video does not show the artifacts)

Hello marrero504,

Thank you for providing the detailed information and screenshots. I can see exactly what you're experiencing with those explosion artifacts in Spider-Man Remastered, and I understand how frustrating this must be when you're trying to enjoy the game.

Looking at your SSU logs, I noticed you're currently running driver version 8135, which is now outdated. There's a newer driver version 32.0.101.8136 that has been released specifically to address various gaming issues, including visual artifacts like what you're seeing. I'd recommend downloading and installing the latest Intel Arc driver from here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/intel-arc-graphics-windows.html

Since you mentioned you did a clean installation when you first got your B580, you might want to consider doing another clean driver installation with DDU before installing the new driver, just to ensure there are no conflicts that could be contributing to these artifacts.

Your system specs look solid, the CORSAIR RM650 PSU should be providing plenty of clean power for your B580, and the direct DisplayPort connection to your MSI monitor eliminates any adapter-related issues.

Please try the driver update first and let me know if you still see the artifacts during those explosion scenes in the helicopter mission. If the issue persists, I'll dig deeper into other potential solutions.

Best regards,

I just updated to the latest driver: 32.0.101.8136.  It looks like this driver came out after I created this thread.  I booted up spiderman and during a quest fight I noticed the same artifact appear.  It happened too quickly for me to get a screenshot but it was not an explosion this time, just during the knocking out of the final enemy (when the game slows down slightly on the final move) the same square artifact appeared (similar to the screenshot provided).  Was something in the latest drivers made to address these artifacts in spiderman?

Here is another example of jumping from an explosion.

It might be the small particles that fly in the air after an explosion or similar affect, but it is pretty consistent on the latest drivers, 32.0.101.8136.

The Rhino/Scorpion fight is especially egregious with this artifact; this might be the best point in the game for testing.

Hello marrero504,

Thank you for the update. After reviewing your system information, I've identified that both your BIOS firmware and graphics drivers require updating to the latest versions.

I highly recommend taking the following steps:

  1. Reach out to your motherboard manufacturer's support team for assistance with updating your BIOS to version 11.01.
  2. Verify that all Windows Updates have been installed and none are pending.
  3. Perform a clean installation of driver version 32.0.101.8136 using DDU in safe mode.

If the issue continues after these steps, please provide an updated SSU log file for further investigation.

Looking forward to your next update.

Jeanette,

All of the above screenshots are on the latest 32.0.101.8136 where I use a clean install via the intel software center.  I have no pending windows updates.  I'll look into the motherboard update but that came out the day I made my initial post and SSU log.  This issue for spiderman has persisted across multiple different users (various internet threads) over the past few months.  Was something in 32.0.101.8136 specifically added to address this issue?

Hello marrero504,

Thank you for confirming the driver installation details and update status. I note the motherboard update timing and will research whether version 32.0.101.8136 includes targeted Spider-Man compatibility improvements.

I'll review this internally and determine what specific improvements were incorporated in this driver release, then provide you with an update.

Hello marrero504,

Our investigation into this issue is ongoing. To help us move forward, I need some additional information:

1) Could you specify which cable type you're using? The Intel Arc B580 is optimized for DP 2.1/HDMI 2.1 and newer standards. While older versions like DP 1.4 may function, they can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

2) For reference, here are resources on compatible cables for the Intel Arc B580:

  • Intel® Arc™ B580 Graphics
  • Intel® Arc™ Graphics – Desktop Quick Start Guide

3) Have you had the opportunity to test with a monitor that supports DP 2.1?

I will wait for your reply.

Hello marrero504,

Thank you for providing your monitor specifications. I can see your monitor supports DisplayPort 1.4 (HBR2) and HDMI 2.0b.

Given that your monitor uses DP 1.4 while the Intel Arc B580 is optimized for DP 2.1, this could potentially be contributing to the compatibility issues you're experiencing. The version mismatch between your monitor's DP 1.4 and the graphics card's DP 2.1 optimization might be causing the graphical artifacts.

Since you are using direct DisplayPort connection, would you be able to try switching between the DisplayPort and HDMI connections to see if the issue persists on both?

This information will help us determine if the connection type is related to the problem you're experiencing.

I look forward to your response.

Jeanette,

I was never able to try a different HDMI cable as I do not have an HDMI 2.0b cable available.  Realistically, I have moved on from Spiderman and this issue was never resolved.

Hopefully this post can be used for someone in the future as this appears to be an issue for Spiderman Remastered on a B580.
