Why does UHD Graphics lose adaptive sync support with driver update?

I have a 13600K CPU and an AOC 27G2G4 panel (with DP cable). I am using an old Intel graphics driver (with code 6078). When I update this driver, adaptive sync support is lost. Is this a driver error? Or does Intel not provide this support?

There have been some reports lately that new Intel drivers lose the AdaptiveSync capability when used with AOC monitors.

To me, this looks like an interoperability issue that has something to do with how the AOC monitors advertise VESA AdaptiveSync via the DisplayPort Auxiliary channel (DP AUX).

Please create a Report for Intel Graphics Drivers and attach the output file here.

AMD FreeSync and VESA AdaptiveSync use different messages over DP AUX. Please make sure that AdaptiveSync is explicitly activated on the monitor. You can read how to do this here from page 21.

I can confirm that the Adaptive-Sync feature MUST BE OFF for my AOC monitor (24P2Q) or otherwise the monitor will display "Input Not Support" when connecting DP (intel UHD 770). It's very troublesome as I need to connect back this monitor to the previous PC (Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600) which can support this AS feature, and then turned off this feature, power off the monitor and then reconnect this monitor the new PC...sigh.

Hello mulmul,

I just wanted to clarify a few points regarding the issue you're experiencing with the Adaptive-Sync feature on your AOC monitor (24P2Q):

  1. Was the Adaptive-Sync feature working correctly before you started using this new setup?
  2. After updating the drivers, did the Adaptive-Sync feature stop working and start displaying the "Input Not Support" error message?
  3. Have you tried rolling back to driver version 6078 for isolation purposes to see if the issue persists?

For your reference, here are the system requirements for Intel Adaptive Sync:

  • 11th-generation Intel Processor Graphics (10th Generation Intel® Core™ "G" Processors formerly known as Ice Lake) or newer, or an Intel® Arc™ Dedicated Graphics card
  • DXGI 1.5
  • DirectX 11 or 12 API
  • A monitor that supports VESA* Adaptive Sync
  • Adaptive Sync enabled in the Intel® Graphics Control Panel (Intel® GCP) or Intel® Graphics Command Center (Intel® GCC)
  • A DisplayPort* cable must be used (HDMI* is not currently supported)

If the system requirements are met, see How to Enable Global Settings in the Intel® Graphics Command Center for the steps to enable the setting.

Best regards,

Mulmul did not create the post. I created it. The vast majority of the answers you requested are written as information in the title of this page. The issue has nothing to do with the API. Intel Graphics Command Center software shows the adaptive sync option as off and does not change it. You can report the issue to the software development department.
