Hi Guys,
I am using a toshiba WT200 that has an intel GMA3600 video chipset. When you launch metro apps, the sys file from the driver causes a BSOD. I have tried this microsoft OLE fix, but to no avail (see http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w8itprogeneral/thread/b0e4f9a3-4c96-4e6f-9399-71fc5813853c Metro apps won&# 39;t start under consumer preview of Windows 8 )
Is there a beta driver suitable for this device coming, that will alleviate this issue?
Thanks, Chris

hi, lucsp! could you tell more, what is your hardware, whether those drivers work and pass winsat performance tests. And they hang in W8 Metro apps? With W7 drivers, my computer crashes with Metro apps. What happens with new drivers and Metro app - app crash or whole OS goes down?

Very interesting indeed... I tried lucsp's modded driver on the Fujitsu Q552 (dev 0EB1), after changing all entries from 0EB2 to 0EB1. While the installation proceeded and I no longer received a "incompatible with this version of Windows" message, I encountered a screen flicker and a message in the taskbar stating "click here to force graphics re-start" or something to that effect. Regardless of whether I clicked that message, I then got a second message that the driver could not be installed due to an error from the device -- certainly different from my last attempt!
Thanks again for everyone's continued efforts -- I'm guessing that I'll have to try something with the INF to get it working with my specific hardware configuration (GMA3600, dev 0EB1, Fujitsu's Q552).
Edit: Hey Intel -- is anyone listening to this?

Indeed, I see the moderators happily comment in other threads to offer help/info, yet avoid these ones like the plague.
Quite embarrassing really when we are basically forced to have to hack our own drivers to get any hope of functionality, what a mess.

ok my win * pro is working well , my hardware is atom n2800 gma 3600 dev id OBE2,
i noted some flickering problem when i start from sleep pc ,
mine is oem no brand slim notebook 1366x768 display, china clone mac airbook
it is very important put in inf file subdev ID .
metro apps are crashing again also with this driver, however you can note some improvement but not totally fixed.
INTEL is not having fair behavior with customers
we are alone and we have to try to fix GMA for win 8 I know we can do it !!

did you put also your SUBSYS ID DEV ? like I did as follow?
[KMD.Mfg]
"Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator"= generic32_VEN_8086&DEV_0BE2, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0BE2&SUBSYS_72708086&REV_09
;PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_08CF&SUBSYS_C0D6144D

Thanks again everybody. Looks like I won't be able to join the party -- my installation proceeds and the screen flashes black two times, but then I see a taskbar pop-up that states "click here to force re-install the graphics driver," which disappears before I can click it. After that, the error message I get is "Windows found drivers for your device, but was unable to install them due to a problem reported from your device (code 43)."
My modded inf contains:
[KMD.Mfg]
"Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator"= generic32_VEN_8086&DEV_0BE1, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0BE1&SUBSYS_178710CF&REV_09
I was also certain to change all entries in the INF from 0BE2 to 0BE1 to match my ID.
Nonetheless, let's see how everyone else does with their driver installation experiences -- Windows 8 does seem a bit jerky with the Windows 7 driver, so any improvements with the newer drivers are certainly welcome...

well PA. maybe we should be THANKFUL that they are allowing such blasphemous conversation going on without delete the thread. But hey if that ever happens, I am sure we can all find each other through Google Search with the right keywords like Eightforums and GMA 3600 right? (wink, wink, flashing morse code)
btw,
we got press coverage here:

That's a good point actually, not all Cedar Trail boards will be running the latest vBIOS and as far as I'm aware it can't be updated separately (so we'd have to rely on our board manufacturers). To get the newer Clover Trail drivers to work properly, we may need updated video BIOS's also

and given what lucsp is showing, he is on N2800 (GMA 3650, which runs at 640 Mzh instead of 400 Mzh)
lucsp, can you check your vbio's version? and do you have a copy of bios from OEM?

my bios is 1050.0 but I have UEFI secure core tiano Phoenix,
by the way I was able to install HD intel graphics on my laptop
you can find my modded driver it takes long time to install but it works.
As usual before commands for driver not signed, I used a beta lenovo driver and i modified the setup inf file
you can do the same with you id dev and subsys .
Unfortunately metro apps are not working , but I think could be a new path for fixing our problem,
if yiu unzip the file you can note opencl install app (iit takes a long time)
resolution its OK , programs open very fast, I have trasperency and aeropeek,
also Hardware acceleration, I can watch HD movies,
please work on it , who knows we can do it better ?

lucsp,
by HD intel graphics driver, it looks like the HD 2/3/4000 driver?
i don't know how you got that working but that is a completely GPU core, one that is made by Intel.
i will give it a try. but this doesn't sound right.

and for everyone,
Here is an eightforums thread I set up just in case we need to continue discussion somewhere
http://www.eightforums.com/hardware-drivers/12305-intel-gma-3600-3650-windows-8-driver.html Intel GMA 3600/3650 Windows 8 driver
We are getting into modding drivers which I am pretty sure violate the user agreement. Intel could delete this thread if they want to on that ground.

Hey you never know, they might be interested to see how we cope, kind of like a social experiment where for example we've got this four month old tablet, just bought a new OS's, yet we don't have any graphics drivers for it!

Good work guys.

http://www.motioncomputing.com/drivers/CL910/CL910_Graphics_v8.14.8.1086_RN.htm http://www.motioncomputing.com/drivers/CL910/CL910_Graphics_v8.14.8.1086_RN.htm
from Aug 27. a bit newer than 1803 posted in the thread earlier. not sure it is any more good and couldn't find an update log describing what changed.

Never mind, from Motion's site:
"
- Display is blank on few specific Display Port monitors after booting thro VGA and connecting the DP monitor
- In Extended mode window positioning is not persisting on mode change
- Corruption is seen on PowerPoint Slideshow when Current slide is pressed on Slide show menu"
looks like just minor fixes.
