X38 cannot boot with RAID enabled in Windows7

Windows 7 starts to boot and fails part way through when my SATA configuration is set to RAID (from IDE). Before Win7 fails, the raid display shows everything as healthy with no actual raid volumes created (I want to pull the data of a drive before taking the plunge). Following the advice here ( http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/cs-025783.htm http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/cs-025783.htm ) I tried installing updated software, but it fails to install with the error "this computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software". I gather from other searching that I need to have RAID enabled in the BIOS to install this. Obviously if I can't boot in RAID I can't install the software to fix the boot process, ugh!

As for alternate workarounds, I couldn't find any updated firmware and my drives are already connected to SATA ports 4 and 5. So, how do I enable RAID on my controller? Is it impossible?

And yes, I've read /message/72274 http://communities.intel.com/message/72274 it didn't have anything helpful.

You have to reinstall the OS when you enable RAID.

Wow, that is a big hammer indeed. That is not awesome, but is probably doable this early in its life. Thanks.

Just to note, reinstalling windows did fix my problem. Also, the matrix storage console looks like it will be able to mirror my drive in-place (after 4+ hrs ). A nice end to a bumpy ride.

Windows installed on IDE mode won't boot in SATA or RAID mode and will have to be reinstalled on that mode to correctly work.
