Hi I got a new inspiron 7746 and ive been getting the "Driver Power State Failure" BSOD after a lot of trial and error with WinDbg ive narrowed it down to the intel graphics driver, This only happens when the system is on battery power and not in safe mode.
Its repeatable I can work on battery for hours on end without a single issue and then install the latest Intel® Iris™ and HD Graphics Driver for Windows* 7/8/8.1 64-bit 15.36.14.64.4080 and within 60 seconds the touchscreen + mousepad stops working often accompanied with a black screen and then seconds later a "Driver Power State Failure" BSOD.
I can provide any crash dumps that would help getting a driver update to fix this, Like I said its so predictable you could set your watch by it. Ive tried reformatting, switching to high performance, trying the dell and Intel driver but the problem remains and as soon as I uninstall the intel graphics driver the problem stops happening.

Hi Raymond
Are you seeing the issue with the latest graphics driver from Dell for the Inspirion 7746 (http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/product/inspiron-17-7746-laptop/drivers Product Support | Dell US)?
The drivers provided by Intel on Intel Download Center are generic drivers with no per system customizations. Dell provided a highly customized version of the generic driver specifically for their system. The customizations include setting for docking and un-docking, power management, and other features specific to the system. I would strongly recommend using only the Dell provided driver for your system.
Thanks
Robert

Yeah I tested it just there, Unplugged the power and started the stopwatch ran the driver from dells webpage and it lasted for 30 seconds after which the touchscreen and touchpad stopped responding and then it bluescreen'd with the same message as above.
I'm typing this now n battery power after rebooting and uninstalling the Intel driver

Would it be possible to get the full system crash dump file of the BSOD?
Also, have you contacted Dell support for this? It is a 2015 laptop so they may or may not be aware of the issue.
Thanks

Have you found a solution to this? I have the same issue to the letter, except I don't get a BSOD at the end... just that lingering blank screen.
