Good morning, the pc described above when Playing some video with codec h265(hevc) all the work does the processor, I use the media player classic and it is enabled to speed up by hardware, when playing any video with h264 codec if the gpu works, more precisely the video decode does its function. I have all the drivers updated, why does not activate the gpu when the codec is h265? nor does it work for the vp9 codec which are the ones that work youtube, i use windows 10 updated with the 1809 version.

Someone who has a way that works, since searching the internet says that the intel hd 5500 if it is able to decode h265 codecs.

Attached image showing the work of the gpu when playing a video with h264 codec.

Attached image showing that the gpu does not decode video when the codec is h265.

Thank you very much in advance the help you can give me.

cvale14, Thank you for posting in the Intel® Communities Support.

In reference to this scenario, we recommend to install the graphics driver provided by the manufacturer of the computer, since that driver was customized by them work with your specific platform.

Even though you mentioned that the drivers were updated, I looked in ASUS web site and the latest Intel® Graphics driver available is version V10.18.15.4279, please test that driver:

https://www.asus.com/us/Laptops/X555LA/HelpDesk_Download/

If the problem persists, since the Intel® Core™ i5-5200U Processor works with the Intel® HD Graphics 5500 controller, we can also test the Intel® Generic Graphics driver version 15.40.42.5063:

Hello cvale14, I just received an update on this matter.

Just to let you know, the hardware encoding/decoding of HEVC is only supported on graphics with 6th generation processors and newer so this is expected behavior.

dear alberto R, thanks so much for you response, in order of ideas, you say me, on respect at graphics the processors have to be 6th generation or upper, for example if i´ll have a processor of 6th generation with the same card graphis intel 5500, this card if decode/enconde will hevc????

anything processor of 6th or upper generation that have intel hd 5500, you could to say me what processor especif are(reference)?

in this page says that intel hd 5500 decodes h.265(hevc)(https://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-5500.125586.0.html).

in this intel's page(https://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/intel-media-sdk/topic/622025), please check quote # 7, the assesor Harsh Jain (Intel) confirms intel hd 5500 decode h265 for processors 5th and 6th generation.

it's confuse, somewhere pages says that hd 5500 decode 5500 with processor 5th generation and you say me not.

i'll be pending of you reply.

thanks!!!!

Hi cvale14, There is another update on this matter.

After doing further research, we can confirm that only the Intel® 6th Generation Processors and newer support hardware encoding/decoding of HEVC codec.

For the Intel® 6th Generation Processors this is not listed in the official datasheet, please verify page 23:

https://cdrdv2.intel.com/v1/dl/getcontent/330834

Just in case, in the following link, you will find the datasheets of the different generations of Intel® Processors, in the case you are interested in verifying the features and specifications they include:
