144hz monitor stuck on 120hz

I have the same exact problem on my msi laptop. But for me i lost my 144hz refresh rate when i updated to windows 11. I gained the same options, 120, 60 and 50. I updated my windows 11 around early 2023 and i gave up on getting my 144hz back since i never found a solution. Until now i understand its a driver issue but i still cant fix it. I have tried to rollback my driver to all sorts of version but nothing worked. I even went back to a version from 2022 and still didnt work. Im forever stuck on 120hz on my 144hz monitor. If i can just acquire the exact drive version needed. I have also tried using custom resolution utlity but to no avail.

Heres my stats. i havent bothered to update the driver back to latest since nothing changes

This can be resolve the issue with your MSI laptop where the 144Hz refresh rate is not available after updating to Windows 11, following these steps:

here it is. Ive tried numerous driver versions. didnt work. my monitor is an asus TUF Gaming VG279QL1A. Its 144hz and i still dont have the option for it

The monitor sends over the cable that it can do this:

• 1080p @ 120 Hz CTA-861 video timing
• 1080p @ 144 Hz with individual video timing based on CVT-RB (Hfront, Vback and Vpol are different)
• 1080p @ 165 Hz with individual video timing

It must be a “Premium High Speed HDMI Cable” or an USB-C > DisplayPort cable (ideally standard VESA-certified).

im using hdmi cable that came with the monitor. it used to work. i used to have 144 hz but now i dont. applications like cru also doesnt work. im added the 144hz option with cru but still capped at 120. regarding the display driver it may not be latest since i cant be bothered downloading the latest again after trying numerous version to try to fix the issue. ive also tried with a new hdmi cable i bought but didnt work.

We don't have a problem with bandwidth here, but I recommend setting up a connection with DisplayPort protocol.

This cable should also allow the monitor to operate with VESA Adaptive Sync up to its maximum refresh rate of 165 Hz.
