Aion Classic - Water glitch

Aion Classic EU just came out and it seems that the Arc doesnt like the games water. It looks like this: https://streamable.com/t0gu8r

Game is quite old but got re-released and runs on Dx9.

To better assist you, please provide me with the following:

  • What steps have you tried to solve the issue?
  • Is this the first graphics adapter installed on your system?
  • Does the issue persist when rolling back to previous driver versions?
  • Share with us the graphics settings you are currently using.
  • Create a report using the following tools:
  • Intel System Support Utility (Intel SSU) 
    • Download the Intel SSU
    • Open the application and click "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel SSU will take you to the "Summary View."
    • Click on the menu where it says: "Summary" to change it to "Detailed View."
    • To save your scan: click "Next"; then "Save."
  •  Intel® Graphics Command Center:
    • Open the Intel Graphics Command Center
    • Navigate to the Support tab
    • Select System Diagnostic
    • Click Generate Report
    • Select Save and name the output file.

  • Reinstall, install DirectX9

  • No buts its a fresh Windows

 

  • Does the issue persist when rolling back to previous driver versions?
  • Yes

 

  • Share with us the graphics settings you are currently using.
  • I tried every possible setting it doesnt change anything

I would guess that the lightning/shadow rendering is just broken. I realized that not only water glitches out. Here is another example of broken shadows: https://streamable.com/ha0mxv

 

It also happens that the graphics completely glitch out. Then everything is just very bright and i have to change something in the settings to fix it. Sometimes i also only have like 5 FPS like here https://streamable.com/xtfurc. I know its a relaunch of an old DX9 Game which are known for not running well on the Arc GPUs but would be great if something could be done here anyway. I also can't adjust stuff for the game inside the Arc Control Panel because instead of using an .exe file, Aion launches a .bin file which isnt supported.

We noticed that you had installed our latest BETA driver, 31.0.101.4335, which was just released. In case you haven't tried it, we also recommend performing a clean driver installation, installing our latest production driver, 31.0.101.4314. Sometimes, corrupted files from previous drivers may be causing malfunctioning.

Other drivers are not helping. My theory is simply that since the game does not start with an .exe file and a .bin file instead the driver may not detect the game and does not correctly emulate DX9.

We have researched this matter internally, and we tried replicating the issue in our lab environment. After testing, we could not observe the problem with our latest drivers. Therefore, the root cause may be different than the graphics drivers.

Hello,

I have the same issue with a A750 on driver version 4314.

This is only on some of the water but not all.

The starting location for Elyos has perfectly fine water : https://abload.de/img/aion0012kfcwa.jpg

The next map has two differnt versions as it seems the ocean is fine https://abload.de/img/aion0003gce8k.jpg while the lake (same location as from OP) https://abload.de/img/aion00137rft1.jpg is muddy and somewhat reflective.

If we go to the next map than it's look like i am standing in liquid metal  https://abload.de/img/aion0014jtcyg.jpg

Yep, just came to say the same. The testers probably only checked the water on first map. On the second Elyos Map, Veteron, you can see it instantly when you are in the first town. There is a small fountain with the buggy water type.

But there is also a small spot on the first Elyos map too where you can see the buggy water type: https://streamable.com/z8xp7i

When you make a new char and instantly walk to the east you can see it.

The glitch also does not happen on my 1660 Super so it can only be the Arc GPU or am i wrong?

I don't know if the issue for the different locations is the same but for me the worst location is in "Eltnen" (Elyos Map) https://abload.de/img/aion0020hfiui.jpg this is accessable via the transport NPC https://abload.de/img/aion00169licp.jpg

We have been testing the game for a while in different locations of the map waters, rivers, etc. Unfortunately, we have not been able to see the issue, and so far, it does not seem to be the graphics drivers, as we haven't been able to replicate it.

 

Here is a video of our replication process for the game. With your help, we can determine if we are missing something in our reproduction steps.

Hello,

The Charakter in the video seems Asmodian to me, which has difficult or no access to the locations i descripted.

I also tried to check the location shown in the video but i am unable to find it within Aion Classic EU.

I am also very sure that the Drivers are part of the problem, i already compared Driver 4314 to the older 3490 which to my knowledge used d3d9on12 insted of dxvk.

 

I added some attachments, the worst spot for me with both Driver 4314 and 3490.
I also added a short clip of the issue for the asmodian site where we can also see very good that not all water has this issue.

We want to wait and check if OP @Saveno has any updates regarding this matter.

 

In the meantime, there is a new driver, 31.0.101.4369, that just came out this week. When trying to install the driver, perform a clean driver installation. Doing a clean install for any hardware can help to fix specific issues that can be associated so any additional software that might be causing malfunction.

Just like the other person i'm playing on Elyos side. Have you checked the location i've showed before? Else there is a fountain in Verteron with the bugged water type. You get there after level 10. I've also attached where the water is buggy on the very first map on Elyos side again which should be the fastest way to compare the same location.
