Cannot add custom resolution with higher 144Hz refresh

My BenQ monitor supports up to 144Hz using the DVI-dual link.  This worked on a previous PC with competitors graphics card.  I'm now using integrated Intel UHD Graphic 730 and want to set 1920x1080 144Hz.

I only have HDMI outputs on the PC for connecting the Intel graphics processor.

My monitor only supports refresh rates higher than 60Hz on its DVI input.

I'm connecting a full  pin DVI to HDMI adapter to the monitor and then connecting an HDMI cable from the monitors adapter to the PC.

Of course it does not sense the higher refresh rate capabilities this way.  The only two choices are 60Hz and 59.95 in the advanced settings in Windows 11.

How can I add or force a custom resolution?

I've tried using CRU.exe but the resolution I add never shows up in the list of all resolutions in the device properties of the Intel UHD  graphics730  list of supported modes.

Thanks

Your monitor is the BenQ Zowie XL2411P (FRC 6b+2b) ?

  • 1x HDMI 1.4 (1080p @ 60 Hz)
  • 1x DisplayPort 1.2 (1080p @ 144 Hz)
  • 1x DVI Dual Link (1080p @ 144 Hz)

HDMI and DVI are electrically compatible, there are corresponding cables:

This allows the video source to send a signal using Transition-Minimized Differential Signaling (TMDS) with a pixel clock of 2 x 165 MHz = 330 MHz in case of Dual Link DVI.

Unfortunately, this does not automatically mean that you can use any adapter solutions. As BenQ states: “Sorry, we can’t guarantee any video adapter comes from 3rd party, since we can’t guarantee its spec and quality which may vary.”

This also applies to the Intel UHD730.

The BenQ Zowie XL2411P sends the following in its Extended Display Identification Data (EDID):

The parameters marked in yellow deviate from the VESA Coordinated Video Timing - Reduced Blanking (CVT-RB) standard. This is necessary in order not to exceed the maximum pixel clock of 330 MHz.

For 1080p @ 120 Hz the monitor sends this:

This corresponds to the CVT-RB standard. However, after my own test, I can confirm that when the monitor's information is read automatically, only 1080p @ 60 Hz is available in Windows.

Please update the graphics driver to the latest version and try again like this:
