Hi, I would like to preface this and say I built this PC recently for a friend. It's a new OS install with only handful of applications installed. Also please tell me if this is the right place to post this, if not I will move it to the correct place.
When trying to screen share on discord the perf goes down to a low and erratic FPS with poor 1% lows for a stuttery, unenjoyable experience. Even screen sharing the desktop feels laggy--floaty feeling.
Steps:
1. Install Discord
2. Screen Share to a friend
3. Weird performance behaviour
FYI: disabling hardware acceleration in Discords settings doesn't fix this issue.
(I'm assuming you have drivers installed before running these steps, and yes I have reinstalled both Discord and the Intel ARC drivers)Screen Share OFF
(Please keep in mind the frame time becomes stable after turning OFF Screen Share, from right to left. The below image shows a flat frame time BEFORE Screen Share is on to which you can see it start becoming erratic, the beginning of the fluctuations-- ergo the poor performance)
Screen Share ON: 117.9w | Screen Share OFF: 69.6w
Screen Share ON
Other people with the same issue:
- Screen Lag/Low fps when starting discord stream - Xero-Notion
- [Need Help] im having issues when trying to stream. b580 - _Saigo
- Whole PC Lags During Discord Application Streaming - HyunCafe
- streaming in discord lags - kkrmrys
And so on, you can find more but I think I've made my point. Please fix this. One of the hallmarks to Discords success is the screen share feature, and having this feature in a broken state isn't exactly great..

Workaround
The quirky solution was relatively simple, it's unchecking "Show My Screen Share" and it works across all resolutions and framerate options.
Right click your Screen Share to see these options
However, in case you don't want to disable that here's a quick resolution + framerate table that works:
Resolution | Framerate | |
720p | 60 fps | Good |
1080p | 30 fps | Good |
1080p | 60 fps | Bad |
1440p | 30 fps | Good |
1440p | 60 fps | Bad |
Things that didn't work: messing with VP8/H264 and HA. Hopefully this is fixed with a driver update.

Hey Dude a few things you might try. check if Intel ARC is maxing out in Task Manager, switch between H.264 and VP8 in Discord settings, make sure Discord is using the ARC GPU (not Intel UHD), try a newer driver, and close any background apps that might be interfering. You're not alone, others have reported this too. Screen sharing in Discord can cause significant performance issues on Windows desktops, especially with the Intel ARC B-Series B580, leading to lag and choppy performance. Other users also report cyclical frametime stuttering when streaming applications at 1440p while playing a DX12 game, an issue that doesn't occur at 1080p and, some experience Discord crashes when sharing screens with the "Better Text Readability" stream quality setting, with no error messages displayed

Hi please check the post again, I managed to find a temporary solution.
It has nothing to do with codecs, nor the iGPU. It can be fixed with a lowering the stream quality resolution to 720p 60fps, 1080p is still affected. Both 1080p and 1440p can work but only at 30fps.
The real solution is unchecking "Show My Screen Share", for now anyway.
Intel pls fix.
