Red faction: Guerilla black sky on Arc A770

Game have black skies and incorrect shadows. Launching in DX9 or DX10 mode has no result. I know, that Arc have no native support of DX9, but as I can see, that also have no supporting emulation. I found old thread  https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/Red-Faction-Guerrilla-Steam-Edition-sky-black-hole-and-ambient/m-p/556217#M62019 about that problem for integrated GPU, and it's about six years ago. Since that time you maked some utility for compatibility?

What I should do for gaming in old games?

CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F 2.50 GHz

Driver version: 31.0.101.4952

Motherboard: MSI PRO-B660M-P-DDR4

Hello Roflosaur.

Thank you for posting in the Intel communities to report a graphical issue with the game Red Faction: Guerilla. We would be more than glad to help you.

  • Was the issue present since you played the game for the first time? If not, was there a system update before the problem started?
  • Is the performance issue related to a specific game zone?
  • What game distribution service did you use to install the game? (Steam, Epic, Microsoft Store)
  • If possible, share a video or screenshot showing the issue you report.
  • There is a new graphics driver available, so we would like to recommend you install the new driver, 31.0.101.4953, after running the Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU). Previous driver files and leftovers can affect the functionality of your system, and the DDU tool will eliminate all the previous driver installation files.

1. I don't understand what system you mean. It's Windows 7 and 10, but more important about hardware. Previous was on GeForce series cards, and all works fine, because it's have no problem with DX9 or later, without any emulation. So question is about DX9, 10 and 11 support by your emulator.

2. Any location

3. Steam

4. See attach

5. Current driver is 31.0.101.4953, update is not resolved bugs.

Hello Roflosaur,

Thank you for the inforamtion provided. Based on your question about the system information we requested before, we would like to have the data for the Windows 10 system system. Remember that Intel Arc A-series graphics require Windows® 10 64-bit 20H2 or newer, Windows 11* 64-bit or Ubuntu* 22.04; Windows 7 has not been validated to work with the Intel Arc product, and Intel is only developing drivers for the validated operating systems mentioned before.

However, since you mentioned a system with Windows 7, we would like to ask if you tested with a secondary system with Windows 7.

You also mentioned that you previously had a GeForce series card. Based on this, we would like to ask if you ran the DDU to eliminate all the previous drivers and leftovers. Note that even after removing your previous card, there may be driver files that will remain in your system and can affect a new graphics card. Running the  Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) will eliminate all previous driver residues and will solve issues caused by loading other graphics card drivers. We recommended it in our previous post, but we can't see any confirmation that you tried it.

Best regards

Well, if you ask.

1. I used DDU to remove intel drivers.
2. I extracted Intel Arc A770 16Gb
3. I inserted my old GeForce 1060 GTX 6 Gb
4. Installed Nvidia drivers
5. Launched Red Faction: Guerilla - no bugs, everything works.
6. I uninstalled Nvidia drivers using DDU
7. I put back the Intel Arc A770 16Gb
8. I installed driver 31.0.101.4953
9. I see lighting bugs in Red Faction: Guerilla

And no, I'm not tried to install Windows 7 with Intel Arc A770 16Gb aboard. Although, after your recommendations, I don’t even know. Why the hell not. Just in case, I’ll re-write my current configuration if for some reason it was lost from the first post:

CPU: 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F 2.50 GHz

RAM: 32,0 Gb

GPU: Intel Arc A770 16 Gb

OS: Windows 10 2H22 build 19045.2965

Driver version: 31.0.101.4953

Motherboard: MSI PRO-B660M-P-DDR4

BIOS: 7D24v2D
