Everything went swimmingly until the part of the game starts where I assume you are supposed to customize your character. Then crash.
Subsequently game can't even start, brings up the "the game has crashed" dialog box before even getting to the main menu.
Any advice?
Edit: Now, sometimes it gets to the loading screen after selecting "Continue" from the main menu and then crashes without dialog.
Edit (again): So sometimes it gets back to that "customize character" screen but then crashes. Changed display settings to the "low" preset and turned off upscaling.

We are are the moment investigating crashes when starting a new game or when trying to load a save game file. Is this what is happening in your case? We would appreciate it if you could share a short video so we can have a better understanding of the problem.
Could you please also, update to our latest driver 31.0.101.4826, and check if the issue persists?

Hi and thanks for the reply.
After using the Display Driver Uninstaller and reinstalling the latest driver, I was able to play for a few hours without problems which was great!
But then I pressed ESC to access the game menu and it instantly crashed without any messages or dialogs - game window just disappeared and I was returned to desktop.

I see the issue still persists with the newer driver, Are these crashes happening from your side totally random or have you noticed any specific way to trigger it?
Also, at the moment we recommend only using high preset graphics settings for better stability, Are these the ones you are using?

We wanted to know if the crashes on Starfield are totally random or if you have identified any clear way to trigger a crash, at the moment we have received reports of random crashes every 5-10 minutes of gameplay, Is this the same behavior you are experiencing on the game?

Hi thanks for the follow up and apologies for taking a while to respond... haven't had as much time for gaming as I'd like lately!
I changed the display settings to "high" as previously recommended and now the game seems to be crashing randomly after an hour or so of play, normally at a load screen. I haven't been able to investigate enough yet to know if the crash is predictable or reproducible.

We are putting a lot of effort into trying to improve the overall stability and performance in Starfield we have identified some specific issues and at the moment we are gathering information from users to see potential areas of opportunity. In your case, it would seem the crashes are random which would follow some reports we have received with similar issues.
Just to make sure, Could you please let us know the distribution service the game was downloaded from whether Steam, Gamepass, or Microsoft Store? If you identify any other detail that you might consider important in regard to these crashes, please also let us know.

The game was installed via the XBOX Game Pass.
I will certainly report back with more details when I have more time to experiment, but so far the crashes seem to be pretty random, occurring during the transition load screens.

Latest crash report from just now: game crashed just when landing on New Atlantis for the first time. Right after loading screen, scene loaded with ship landing cut-scene and crashed immediately to desktop.

We have unfortunately not received a response from you, we hope that the performance and crashes in Starfield have improved from your side, most of the crashes should have been fixed in our latest available driver, however, as informed in previous pots there are still graphics corruption issues and other glitches we will continue to improve, please look forward to future driver updates which will continue to improve the experience in Starfield.
