TV screen flickers when a video appears on it or when it goes fullscreen / minimizes

So i recently connected a 4k tv to my arc a770 (with hdmi, 2 cables tested) and each time a video, either from youtube or different site appears on screen it flickers 3 times. There's similar issue on other monitors when a video preview is played on a couple of sites, but i don't remember which ones (yt included but only on tv, not on the monitors).  Same thing happens when I try going full screen with the video, three flickers and only then I can watch.

I use DDU every driver update so it's not that.

Overall it's mostly useable but very annoying.

Hello Remlin379,

Thank you for posting in the Intel Communities. We would be more than glad to help you.

Based on your issue, please try the following:

  • Make sure to use a straight connection with no video adapters/dongles in between.
  • Since you are using a multi-monitor setup, make sure that the issue happens when only one display is attached.
  • Does the Flickering only occur when reproducing video? Check if the flickering issue happens inside the BIOS configuration screen (To access the BIOS, check with the motherboard/laptop manufacturer).
  • Perform a Clean Installation of the Intel Graphics driver; currently, the latest driver available is version 31.0.101.4826.
  • If possible, share with us a video to better understand your issue and for issue reproduction purposes, in case it's needed.

-Two displays have a direct displayport, the tv has a direct 2.1 HDMI

-Same thing happens even if the tv is the sole display (all are connected but it's set to single display)

-It mostly happens with videos, I couldn't get it to flicker in bios

-I perform a clean installation every update, it's so annoying I considered throwing the card out multiple times

Hello Remlin379,

Thanks for the inforamtion provided. We want to check if when you updated the driver, you used an HDMI connection at that moment. Note that our latest drivers contain an update for the HDMI PCon firmware; however, to install the update, you need to connect an HDMI display to the Intel Arc card. In case you didn't, we advise you to try reinstalling the latest driver once more. Let us know if you have tried it or the outcome, as this will help us to further look into this matter.

I used DDU in safe mode, uninstalled the driver and then installed the newest one.

I had all of my displays connected and turned on during the installation, including the hdmi tv

There's no difference from before, the flicker is exactly the same

I also tested the tv by connecting it to a laptop (intel hd graphics and windows 11 instead of 10) and it worked perfectly, with  no flicker at all

Additional piece of information: Even though the TV is connected via HDMI, Arc Control says it's DP

Hello Remlin379,

Thank you for the additional information. We understand that the Arc Control states that you are using a DP connection when, in reality, you are using the HDMI port. We will add this information to the issue details to further look into this.

We are currently researching your issue; however, we came back to confirm if the flickering behavior also occurs when one of the regular monitors is through HDMI. Let us know the outcome since we want to check if the problem is exclusive to the Beyond TV.

Jean O.

I connected my main monitor by HDMI - there was no issue with flickering, it was also communicating that it's connected by DP
I reinstalled the drivers while having the main monitor connected by HDMI - nothing changed

I also forgot to mention and I'm not sure if it's in the files, but the tv model is TCL QLED 43C649

Hello Remlin379,

Thank you for the information provided. After looking at this matter, it appears to be a compatibility problem with the TV. However, we want to ask you to test by checking the TV image options, such as the Full-Color range (some displays call it UHD color), and test with HDR on/off. We also want to ask if you can test with an HDMI-to-DP cable/adapter.

Unfortunately, it is important to mention that issues with just one specific model are difficult to assign development resources and may not get a fix soon.

Enabling HDR on the tv breaks colors on all displays
I was testing out different modes like game/film/standard, no changes
I don't have that type of adapter and I don't need one so I can't test it

Also don't worry, as soon as I can I'm going for amd and I'm never bying intel cards again.

A side note, similar thing started happening on my main monitor. Seemingly without any cause, sometimes it will start flickering when moving a mouse or starting yt previews. It's fine 90% of the time, but rarely during use it will just start with the flicker and the graphic driver needs to be reset to fix this.

Hello Remlin379,

Since the issue seems to be present on another monitor, we recommend you start the RMA process with the graphics card. If you have an Intel® Arc™ A770 Graphics Limited Edition, directly contact Intel Customer Support to initiate the RMA process (you cannot do this through the forums). Here are pages where you can look up contact information, including local/country phone numbers, by geography:

U.S. and Canada: Intel Customer Support

Europe, Middle East, and Africa: Intel Customer Support EMEA

Asia-Pacific: Intel Customer Support APAC

Latin America: Intel Customer Support LAR

If you have a card from any other manufacturer, you should contact the graphics card manufacturer to process the warranty. You can use this thread to inform them about the troubleshooting steps you have tried.

I sincerely doubt vendors / retailers will take back a gpu under a warranty if the issue is clearly from the software side...

And by the way, it's actually impressive to make a card that actually works better WITHOUT a driver.
I mean it, the colors are better, windows aero actually works, and most importantly, the tv screen doesn't flicker at all. (just checked)

But that's only until windows installs it's own driver because then even REFRESHING the screeen breaks (like reset the driver to get the next frame breaks)
