The Crew 2 (DX11) low fps @4K, Arc A770 16GB LE

Hi,

in most DX12 games I am playing currently, performance of the Arc A770 is good enough / sufficient for decent  1440p@60fps or even 4K@60fps   , with slightly reduced details, not everything on 'ultra' but mostly medium to high, also with FSR/XeSS enabled where available.

however, I recently picked up The Crew 2 again (by Ubisoft),

and unfortunately in The Crew 2, performance in both 1440p and 4K feels way lower than expected,

given the 'lower' quality of its graphics / visual effects details (it performs worse & also looking uglier than FH4/5 eg., imho)

I'm pretty sure it's because the game's engine itself  has little optimizations for modern CPU & GPUs,

and also because the Arc Series of dGPU's has it's problems, especially in older API's like DX11 in this case, for which whe unfortunately haven't seen that many optimizationsin it's drivers so far.

(I know DX12 usually runs a lot better on Arc, and also DX9 has improved a lot for quite a few games)

btw using DXVK on my own turned out to be a problem/impossible and is unfortunately not an option btw,

because The Crew 2 uses BattlEye anticheat, which blocks loading of d3d11.dll from game folder.

I've attached a screenshot of all ingame settings & what performance usually looks like ingame

(~41 to 51 fps @ 4K , CPU load@15-30%max, GPU load @ 91-100% usually)

also, I've added Intel ssu.txt Diag file. (if you need a separate dxdiag / msinfo file let me know)

Hello LynxRufus,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We understand that you are experiencing low performance in The Crew 2.

To have a better understanding of your issue, please provide me with the following:

  • What is the expected performance you had for this game?
  • We noticed that you are using ultra setting @4K. Does lowering the graphics help with this issue?
  • Are you running the game's latest version?
  • Is the issue present if you try a different driver version?
  • What is the game distribution service? ( Blizzard, Epic, Origin, Steam, Xbox, Ubisoft connect)?
  • Please provide us with a video showing the issue behavior, as well as the game settings you use.

Also, perform a clean installation of the latest production driver, 31.0.101.4146.  Sometimes corrupted files from previous installations of drivers can linger on a system which can cause driver updates to not work as expected. It is important to mention that BETA releases are for targeted testing.

Ty for your reply.
The crew 2 is on the latest most recent version, from ubisoft Connect via their own launcher.

I was expecting fps closer to 50 or 60fps with those settings.
Ofc lowering settings helps, but i have to lower them alot (4k medium or 1440p high basically, need to recheck)

I provided the settings & typical fps in the screenshots above. Also tried to prepare a video but I ran into recording issues (hardware encoding on arc not working properly, posted infos in another thread)..

Here is that said video, unedited, uploaded to yt as is:

Will try latest 4146 which came out today/yesterday asap once I get back home and have some spare time

Hello LynxRufus,

Thank you for the information provided.

We would like to confirm if the issue is still present on the latest driver version available. We will wait for you to try the latest driver and check the outcome. Let us know if you face any inconvenience.

Also, we want to confirm if the video you record shows how you experience the game or if it is affected by recording issues.

Yes, i tried latest 4146 release,
It didn't seem to change much if anything at all..

i was just hoping there would be something you could do driver optimization wise on your end for this game, I remember the interview that mentioned there's still room for improvement left in DX11 api based games like which The Crew 2 engine based on..

I also wanted to point out with low performance I meant in Relation to games like forza horizon 5, and regarding other gpus, i was expecting fps maybe a little closer to amds rx 6700 or nvidia 3060ti perhaps.

I also asked Ubisoft regarding the 'issue' . I don't expect them to do much abou it, but sure am still hoping for it somehow.

Maybe you can investigate it together, iirc you already had a partnership going on with Ubisoft & 'The settler:s new alliances'

Thx anyway, for trying to help.

For the time being im just going to have live with it & stick to 1440p high, or 4k medium, no big deal but still bugging me a bit

Forgot to mention: it's not only about low absolute fps, but bad frame times/ minimum low percentile... Causing it to look more stuttery / choppy while looking at videos with similar fps look a lot more 'fluid'

Will try to add capframex metrics later.

Hello LynxRufus,

We appreciate your patience.

This time, we would like to recommend you test with 1440p @ high or ultra settings. The performance results of the A770 for 4K gaming can vary, and note that we are not aiming for 4K gaming with this hardware.

Also, it is important to mention that we are also working hard to push Dx11 performance up via driver updates, so this situation can change shortly, so keep the drivers updated and stay tuned for improved performance.
