Intel Advisor: survey report of sample application not showing all the loops

Jump to solution

Hi all,

Intel advisor comes with a sample application to test the product.

The survey report is not showing the analysis of all the loops.

It is available at the installation directory. The directory path is:

 /opt/intel/advisor_2020.2.0.606470/samples/en/C++/Vector_Tutorial_Introduction.tgz

After unpacking, when I make a survey report of example.cpp, it is only showing 3 loops when the application has a total of 5 loops.

I am attaching the snapshot of the survey report [advisor_snap.png] and the code is written below.

Please let me know if I need to share more details.

Code in example.cpp:

#include <iostream> // See Legal Information at the bottom of the file.
#include <random>
using namespace std;

long function (int slowDown[], long i);

const long SIZE = 75000;
const long SLOWDOWNSIZE = 256;

int slowdown[SIZE][SLOWDOWNSIZE];

long arrayA[SIZE];
long arrayB[SIZE];

int main ()
{
// Setup
for (long i = 0; i < SIZE; i++)
{
arrayA[i] = rand() % 5000;
arrayB[i] = rand() % 5000;
}

/****************** Normal, unit stride loop ******************/
cout << "Normal Unit Stride Loop: \n";
//#pragma ivdep
for (long i = 0; i < SIZE; i++)
{
arrayA[i] = i + 15;
function(slowdown[i], i);
}
cout << " --- DONE --- \n\n";

/************* Not vectorizable due to dependency *************/
cout << "Dependency loop: \n";
for (long i = 1; i < SIZE - 1; i++)
{
arrayB[i] = 5 + arrayB[i - 1];
function(slowdown[i], i);
}
cout << " --- DONE --- \n\n";

/********************** Constant stride ***********************/
cout << "Constant Stride Loop: \n";
//#pragma ivdep
for (long i = 0; i < SIZE; i += 2)
{
arrayB[i] = 2 + i;
function(slowdown[i], i);
}
cout << " --- DONE --- \n\n";

/********************** Non-unit stride ***********************/
cout << "Non-unit Stride Loop: \n";
for (long i = 0; i < SIZE; i += (i > 10000)? 1 : 50)
{
arrayA[i] = i;

Hi @Arnab ,

Loops in your sample are too short for analysis. It is the reason. You can increase its walltime or reduce sampling interval by means of command line option "--interval=1" (default value is 10) or similar option in project properties.

Hi,

It would be nice

I am using emacs terminal to compile the code. My OS is Ubuntu 20.04.

I am writing this in the emacs terminal.

icpc -o exec.x example.cpp

What option exactly should I add in this?

Or, should I set --interval=1 from somewhere else?

Hi,

I have solved the problem by using the following commands for roofline analysis. Thank you for your help.

advixe-cl -collect survey --interval=1 -project-dir $(ADVPROJDIR) -- ./$(ExecutableFile)
advixe-cl -collect tripcounts -flop --interval=1 -project-dir $(ADVPROJDIR) -- ./$(ExecutableFile)

For the GUI:

We can go to Project properties->Survey HotspotsAnalysis->(scrolldown) advanced settings -> sampling interval (set it as 10)
