Cannot detect the realsense and VGA camera

After getting the board and the vision kit, I integrated the realsense and VGA camera to the board according to the official guide.

https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero/wiki/RealSense RealSense · intel-aero/meta-intel-aero Wiki · GitHub

However, after entering Yocto, there are no video11~13 in the /dev folder.

Is it necessary to install any other thing (like drivers) on the board?

Hi X281698631,

Thanks for reaching out.

That's a weird issue. I have just tested it and it worked without issues. Please make sure that you are using the latest image, and the latest BIOS. Check this guide: https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero/wiki/02-Initial-setup# flashing

Are you connecting the Camera before powering the Aero Board? Please follow this guide: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/boards-and-kits/000023235.html

I will be waiting for your response.

Have a nice day.

Regards,

Hi Leonardo,

Thanks for your reply.

1. I am using the latest version of bios and OS. After running get_aero_version.py in the terminal, it shows that:

2. Yes. I carefully check the top view of cable and insert into intel aero board with the top view facing upwards.

3. Then input "ls /dev" in the terminal, there are no video 11-13 as shown below:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5t18DWWkEAKbENYa3U4c0FyU1VQYWp5TjU2cVhpSVpCNlNz IMG_1188.JPG - Google Drive

Look forward to your suggestions. Thanks.

BTW, I connected the VGA camera onto the board.

How can I launch it??

If I input the command

gst-launch-1.0 v4l2src device=/dev/video0 ! video/x-raw,width=640,height=480,framerate=30/1 ! xvimagesink

there would be an error information as shown below:

Hi X281698631,

I was checking the second photo that you provided, and it seems that you connected it incorrectly. I think you connected the camera to the intel aero board with the bottom view facing upwards. Take a look at your photo:

According to the guide I provided you, if you connect the camera cable with the top view facing upwards, you will see a black line of the cable on each side. Check the image of the guide:

I think this is the problem that you are having, and that's why your Aero board doesn't detect the camera. You can try to connect it correctly to see if it detects it. Unfortunately, in the guide there is a note that says: "Incorrectly connecting the camera cable, or applying excessive force when doing so, can damage the camera and/or the Intel Aero Compute Board. Such damage is not covered by the product warranty."

About your last question, the only method available to use the VGA camera is in the following thread: /thread/112209 https://communities.intel.com/thread/112209

When you have generated the binary file capture_example, you can use the following command to take photo with the VGA camera:

C=10 INPUT=1 MODE=PREVIEW ./capture_example --userp -d /dev/video0

Thanks for your reply.

According to

I download the binary file of capture_example and ran it,

However, I got the same error info as the authors' when running capture_example

VIDIOC_S_FMT error 22, Invalid argument

Do you have any idea?

Hi X281698631,

Did you try the last suggestion in that thread? If you have issues you can try to build the sample as a package or rebuilding the image with the new sample-apps layer from the Intel Aero GitHub page.

Have a nice day.

Hi Leonardo

Thanks.

Very lucky, I today get it working. I use the binary file of capture_example.

I type dmesg and analyze the output.

I think the problem is that the board couldn't detect the VGA camera itself when booting before, but today the ov8858 and ov7721 were detected successfully.

Best regards,

Xi Tao
