Connect Realsense D415 to Intel Aero Compute Board

I would like to connect the Realsense D415 camera to the Intel Aero RTF drone. The drone is setup with Ubuntu 16.04 and ROS. I tried to connect the camera over the micro USB3 port on the board, but all attempts with different cables failed (USB 3 and OTG). I understand that the camera needs a USB3 connection, but this port does not seem to support USB3 devices. A similar problem has already been reported under .

The board has an other port , which supports USB3 devices. This is the one where the Realsense R200 is connected by default. Now I wanted to ask you about the specifications for this USB3 port on the board. Is that a standardized connection? Where could we order such connectors?

Also the D415 has two different ports. One of them is a standard USB C port. I would also like to know the specifications for the second port. Do you sell any cables to connect over that one? An ideal solution for us would be to connect this second port on the D415 with the small USB 3 supporting port on the Aero board. But any other solution in connecting the camera would be highly appreciated.

Hi Tanja,

Could you send me a picture of your set-up? How do you know that your camera is not recognized? What error are you getting?

Can you send me the output of the command lsusb -t ?

Can you also tell me what version of librealsense you are using?

Regards,

Hi Alexandra,

Thank you for getting back to me. See the attached picture of our setup.

We use a micro USB3 OTG adapter (white), which is that one: https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/delock-usb-30-adapter-a-micro-020m-otg-usb-kabel-5639135 Delock USB 3.0 Adapter (A - Micro, 0.20m, OTG) - USB Kabel - digitec

I believe the USB C cable came together with the realsense D415.

The output of lsusb -t is the following:

master@IntelAero:~$ lsusb -t

/: Bus 02.Port 1: Dev 1, class="root_hub", Driver=xhci_hcd/6p, 5000M

|__ Port 4: Dev 3, If 0, class="Video", Driver=uvcvideo, 5000M

|__ Port 4: Dev 3, If 1, class="Video", Driver=uvcvideo, 5000M

|__ Port 4: Dev 3, If 2, class="Video", Driver=uvcvideo, 5000M

|__ Port 4: Dev 3, If 3, class="Video", Driver=uvcvideo, 5000M

|__ Port 4: Dev 3, If 4, class="Video", Driver=uvcvideo, 5000M

|__ Port 4: Dev 3, If 5, class="Video", Driver=uvcvideo, 5000M

/: Bus 01.Port 1: Dev 1, class="root_hub", Driver=xhci_hcd/7p, 480M

When I launch the realsense script with: roslaunch realsense2_camera rs_rgbd.launch

I basically get the error "No RealSense devices were found! Terminating RealSense Node..."

I could provide you with the whole output if that helps, but I cannot attach files and its quite a lot...

I'm not sure which version of librealsens I have, but I installed it along the instructions here https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero/wiki/90-%28References%29-OS-user-Installation# intel-realsense-sdk https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero/wiki/90-%28References%29-OS-user-Installation# intel-realsense-sdk

Hi Tanja,

Could you give me more information about your set-up?

How did you connect the mouse, keyboard and camera at the same time?

How did you launch the realsense script with: roslaunch realsense2_camera rs_rgbd.launch ?

Regards,

Hi Alexandra,

I did not connect a mouse and display to the aero in this setup. I accessed the drone over ssh.

Yes, I tried to launch with the exact command you stated. I cloned the realsense ros wrapper into the catkin src space and built it with catkin tools.

I could connect and use the D415 on my laptop as well as on a jetson tx2 board. I used the same versions of librealsense and ros wrapper as I installed on the aero. Still, the aero does not detect the camera.

Hi Tanja,

This is a known issue and you will have to use this adapter https://www.amazon.com/Estone-Speed-Female-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00F068T1Q/ref%3Dsr_1_14%3Fs%3Daudio... as specified in the thread you shared.

Hi Alexandra,

This adapter is currently not available. Also it is not really suitable for flying, as it is a quite large connector. We would really like to attach the realsense D415 over the same port as the R200 is attached. Could you please give me the specifications of the connectors on the board and of the second port on the realsense?
