Crashed Intel Aero Drone and brke the GPS rod.

Jump to solution

We purchased this Intel Aero Drone to do trajectory tracking study.

So we changed the OS to Ubuntu 16, and when we flied it in the offboard mode with my own developed code, the drone flied to the roof, crashed and broke the GPS rod, and I purchased a new typhoon GPS which is the same GPS for the Intel Aero drone. After I installed the GPS on the drone and powered the droen on, the Ubuntu system is running normally, but we cannot connect to the drone with our laptop through the drone wifi. And when we try to run the same offboard mode code, it showed that I cannot connect to the flight controller. And I tried the official demo code which is to arm the drone for 5seconds, it didn't work. And everything seems to be normal from the apperances and lights. So should we send back the drone to fix the problem? What might be the solution for this problem?

Hello ZChen57, Thank you for the information! Is it possible to re-install the OS on the drone? Firstly, please install Yocto and make all the upgrades (FPGA, FC, etc). You can find the instructions here: https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero/wiki/02-Initial-Setup#flashing After this is done, please install Ubuntu 16.04.3, as this version have been confirmed to work best with Intel Aero - https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero/wiki/90-(References)-OS-user-Installation Looking forward to your reply! Thank you and best regards, Eliza

Hi Eliza, Thanks for this. I can not find the wifi of the drone with my laptop, which means I cannot connect to the drone's access point. I'll re-flash the flight controller and let you know about the output. Thanks. *Best,* *Zhu Chen, graduate student.* *Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering* *University at Buffalo, * *NY, 14261,* *(716)907-3904*

Hi Eliza, I tried to re-flash the fight controller, and I can't make it. The output the the OS, BIOS, FPGA and AeroFC version is shown in the screenshot below. Also from the screenshot, I cannot flash the FPGA, so can you help me with this? Since I can not connect to the drone's access point, I think I cannot calibrate the drone with QGroungControl, right? Thanks in advance. [image: image.png] *Best,* *Zhu Chen, graduate student.* *Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering* *University at Buffalo, * *NY, 14261,* *(716)907-3904*

Hi Eliza, Thanks for your help. I followed your advice, which is to re-install Yocto, and update the BIOS, FPGA, FC, and then installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 successfully. Now I want to run my own python code, which ROS version should I install on Ubuntu 16.04.1 to have a best match? Like ROS kinect? Can you give me the website reference for ROS installation that I can follow? Thanks in advance. *Best,* *Zhu Chen, graduate student.* *Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering* *University at Buffalo, * *NY, 14261,* *(716)907-3904*
