Get images from the frontal 8MP camera

Hi,

I installed ubuntu 16.04 on Intel Aero. I'm able to acquire images from the Intel RealSense and the bottom VGA cameras and publish images on ros topics. However, I'm not able to get images from the frontal 8MP camera. Are there some official or non official source codes to do it ?

Thank you in advance,

Daniele

Hello daniele.marchetti,

Thank you very much in advance for your patience.

Unfortunately, there is currently a known issue with the 8MP camera and the engineering team is looking into it.

In the meantime you can find a sample app here:https://github.com/intel-aero/sample-apps/tree/master/hd-camera https://github.com/intel-aero/sample-apps/tree/master/hd-camera

The images are unfortunately too dark and this is a know issue.

I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

Best regards,

Hello Casandra,

Thank you for your support.

I tried to run the sample app https://github.com/intel-aero/sample-apps/tree/master/hd-camera sample-apps/hd-camera at master · intel-aero/sample-apps · GitHub but I'm not able to get images from the hd camera yet. The images I got show a portion of the screen, not the images from the hd camera. Could you help me?

Thank you in advance,

Daniele

Hello Casandra,

Let me ask you one last question please. Using the sample application, the images are too dark and this is a known issue. Has anyone been able to adjust exposure, gain, balance and saturation to obtain good images? The command:

sudo v4l2-ctl --list-ctrls -d /dev/video*

shows a list of all possible controls for the related device. In this way, the control of the Intel RealSense camera is straightforward but for the 8 MP camera it is not trivial because /dev/video2 is shared by the bottom camera and the 8MP camera. Is there any trivial solution ?

Thank you,

Daniele

Hello daniele.marchetti,

Thank you for your patience.

We checked and unfortunately, the solution you suggested will not work.

As I mentioned, this is a known issue with the camera providing underexposed frames, at this time there is no solution available.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Best regards,

Casandra
