Install a FrSky Rx and using a Taranis for radio controller

Jump to solution

Looking at purchasing the Aero Drone for development of a surveying system using the Emlid Reach . My question is can you use a different rx and transmitter such as the Taranis and an XM+? I believe this would increase the range (the XM+ can reach out over a mile)

Thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Todd,

The FrSky SM+ receiver uses SBUS to communicate to a flight controller. Unfortunately, SBUS is currently not supported.

It may be possible to use a SBUS receiver by using an external inverter. Please note that this has not been tested with the Aero RTF Drone.

Another important point to add is that the current receiver is powered by 3.3V, SBUS receivers on the market are powered by 5V. So, you would need to get the 5V from somewhere else like the telemetry connector.
