poor wifi connectivity

When trying to connect to the drone's access point wifi from my personal computer, I frequently lose connection to the network.

I configured the wifi network as described in the tutorial: "nmcli c up hotspot" & "nmcli c hotspot connection.autoconnect yes"

"get-aero-version.py" returns the following:

BIOS_VERSION = Aero-01.00.13

OS_VERSION = Poky Aero (Intel Aero linux distro) v1.6.0 (pyro)

AIRMAP_VERSION = 1.8

FPGA_VERSION = 0xc2

Aero FC Firmware Version = 1.6.5

I referenced the past issue ( , which suggested that the problem was due to using a USB 3.0 cable. However, the wifi problems persists whether or not any cables are connected to the drone.

Hi, Jeffrey95

Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support.

Please let me look into it and I will get back to you later.

Yes that is the guide I following. But the connection is still shakey and frequently drops.

Hi, Jeffrey95

First, you should try to update the firmware version to 1.61

https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero/releases/tag/v1.6.1

Also, the Intel Aero drone's antennas were chosen because they are lightweight.

You could try changing the antennas and you can find instructions in the link below:

http://www.instructables.com/id/Intel-Aero-Drone-Extending-Wifi-Range/

Let me know if it works.

I updated to firmware version 1.6.1 as you suggested. However, the access point wifi is still extremely shaky – my laptop frequently loses connection with the network – even when the laptop is directly next to the drone.

Did you try a different laptop or a desktop PC with WiFi support (by dongle or internal card)? I have found that some laptops have flaky WiFi.

Dan

Hi, Jeffrey95

In this case you should also try extending the wifi range by changing the antennas.

Hi Alexandra,

we downloaded the latest OS image (Version 1.6.1) and bios (v01.0013) for Intel Aero.

the "get-aero-version.py" returns the following:

BIOS_VERSION = Aero-01.00.13

OS_VERSION = Poky Aero (Intel Aero linux distro) v1.6.1 (pyro)

AIRMAP_VERSION = 1.8

FPGA_VERSION = 0xc2

Aero FC Firmware Version = 1.6.5

We have mayor problem with WiFi (Aero Board is AP), our laptop constantly looses the connection to the Aero board, it connects and disconnects constantly.

We also tried with different PC with WiFi and not only laptop and the behavior is the same . The PC or laptop is 1m away from the Aero Board.

Is there a mayor problem with WiFi in version 1.6.1 ??

Best Regards.

Hi,

Could you both give me some additional information?

Are you using the drone outside or indoor?

How congested is the location with wireless networks?

Did you try to position the antennas differently?

Dear Alexandra,

here are our answers:

Are you using the drone outside or indoor?

-> we are using the drone indoor.

-> the PC (laptop) is one meter away from the drone

How congested is the location with wireless networks?

-> we only have 1 more wireless network that works perfect.

Did you try to position the antennas differently?

-> the antennas on the drone are in fixed position, how to position them different ( to put the drone on the side is not practical)

Additional information:

when we connect with laptop we see that we got a connection at 30Mbps and then is falling to 20Mbps, 10Mbps and then disconnects , and then reconnects automatic and this goes in he loop.

Best Regards.
