Questions about the Arc A770 architecture and more

Good morning, I have a question and I'd like to know a little more about the Intel Arc A770 graphics card, the Limited Edition Arc A770. When gaming, does the heat generated by the card rise or fall? Is it a push system, meaning the heat is pushed upwards or pulled downwards?

Greetings

Hi addelucas123,

Thanks for contacting the Intel Community Forum. In a typical desktop gaming setup, GPU heat naturally rises but is also directed upward by the GPU’s fans. Since most GPUs are mounted horizontally, fans draw cool air from beneath the card and push it upward through the heatsink. The heated air is then forced out from the sides into the case, where rear and top case fans remove it.

To clarify your question: this design functions as a push/intake system. The GPU fans pull cool air in toward the heatsink and then push the hot air outward.

If the GPU is vertically mounted, the airflow pattern changes slightly; however, heat will still rise. Feel free to reach out if you need more help.

Good morning, let me summarize the Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition version. Do the fans blow heat upwards or downwards? I'm sending you a photo of the case I'm going to replace so you can give me some tips or advice, perhaps a diagram, on how I can position the fans for better airflow and temperature control for the graphics card.

Thanks!

Good morning, would you be so kind as to reply to this ticket as well? I understand it has nothing to do with the case, but I'm hoping you can guide me on how to position it for better airflow. Remember, I want to install two fans at the bottom. As you can see, the case supports two 120mm fans, but my question is: will this bring cool air to the graphics card or exhaust heat from it?

Hi addelucas123,

Thank you for your response! To clarify your questions, the Intel Arc A770 Limited Edition uses a dual‑fan cooling design where:

  1. The fans pull cool air downward into the heatsink.
  2. Warm air is expelled out through the sides of the card.
  3. Although heat naturally rises, the GPU fans actively direct airflow for proper cooling.

Based on your system layout, here is the generally recommended setup for your two new 120mm bottom fans:

Bottom Fans: INTAKE

  1. Position: Configure the bottom fans as intake, pulling cool air upward into the case.
  2. Benefit: Delivers fresh air directly to the GPU for better thermal performance.
  3. Airflow Path: Cool air enters from the bottom → GPU fans draw it in → hot air exits through the top and rear exhaust fans.

Overall Case Airflow:

  1. Top: Exhaust (hot air out)
  2. Rear: Exhaust (hot air out)
  3. Front: Intake (cool air in)
  4. Bottom: Intake (cool air up toward GPU) which is your added fans

Why Bottom‑Intake works:

  1. Provides direct cooling to the GPU
  2. Helps maintain positive air pressure, reducing dust buildup
  3. Can lower GPU temperatures
  4. Aligns with natural upward heat movement

Adding bottom intake fans will improve your Arc A770’s cooling efficiency by supplying cooler air right where the GPU needs it most. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
