C++ Studio XE Installation fails

Hi, first of all, sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong forum. I'm currently trying to install the Intel C++ Studio XE for Windows on my computer. Unfortunately after unpacking the offline installation file i am getting the following error message "ERROR: The installation is terminated because of unknown error. Suggestions: visit the Support Web Site for a solution to this problem.".

So here i am. Can you help me? thank you in advance for the help.

Hi

Can you monitor installation process with Process Explorer.Find thread which runs installation process and observe call stack look for exception handling calls.Another option is to monitor installation process with regmon and look for failed registry calls.

Another more advanced option could be running installation process under windbg and try to set breakpoint on CreateWindow or maybe MessageBox function and hopefully hitting the one which displays the error related string.From there going backward and trying to reconstruct the chain of events which led to app's crash.

I am an absolutely novice in these programs, but this sounds quiet promising for me

Exception (first-chance) at 0x74B1C41F (KernelBase.dll) in Setup.exe: 0xE0000001 (Parameter: 0x80004005)
First-chance exception at 0x74B1C41F in Setup.exe: Microsoft C++ exception: _com_error at memory location 0x00446B6C.

You can find the ProcMon output for the offline installer here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/14818868/Setup_Intel.PML

Some specifications for my client:

Windows 7 x64 Professional

Intel i7 4770K

16 GB RAM

ATI Radeon HD 6970

Do you have a qualifying version of Visual Studio working? VS 2012 Pro is good for all recent versions of Composer. Only the XP1 update 1 supports VS 2013 Pro.

In VS 2008 or 2010 you will need to select the C++ installation option, including, in VS2008, C++ X64 support, and apply service packs.

Once again, What version of Windows do you use? Please provide details since you need to look at log-files to understand what could be possibly wrong and location of these log-file depends on a version of Windows.

It could be also related to Windows version.Try to search  through  EventViewer log messeges or Studio XE directory.

Can you post dump file of the failed process?.It seems that exception code  0xE0000001 could be a custom one.

@Johannes

Can you disable Kaspersky AV proactive defense?I have found many RegQuery/RegOpenKey failed calls which involved mapping/querying of some dlls such like WSOCK.dll.I suppose that Kaspersky AV is hooking registry calls and failing registry queries by returning NAME_NOT_FOUND value.

There is also many irp IRP_MJ_CREATE issued by fltrmngr.sys driver  calls with return parameter NAME_NOT_FOUND.

After disabling Kaspersky AV can you made another capture of whole system activity with Process Explorer.I need to compare the results.

While looking at Process Monitor trace on every occurence of error called NAME_NOT_FOUND click on that line and choose jump to ... option,next regedit.exe will be opened with the key which name was not found.Pay attention to the describtion of various fields , many of them should be set.

>>...It seems that exception code 0xE0000001 could be a custom one... It is Not clear so far since I don't see that code in lists for C++ or Win32 exceptions handled by a Visual Studio. I think this is a wrong direction of investigation and I would try an online installation instead of offline.

>>...It seems that exception code 0xE0000001 could be a custom one... This is what I found in MS Platform SDK headers: ... #define ERR_NO_DISK_SPACE 0xE0000001 // Values reported by GetLastError #define ERR_DISK_CREATE_ERROR 0xE0000002 // when an explicit error result #define ERR_DISK_OPEN_ERROR 0xE0000003 // isn't available. ... My question is do you have lots of free space on the hard drive?
