I have a problem with time and data at bios and I decided update bios to latest version via UEFI Shell according to your manual https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000030811/mini-pcs/intel-compute-sticks.html but I got problem: every time when I run flash-procedure I have error "Capsule update failure. Unable to query system capabilities"

When I choose at bios OS Windows 8.1/10 I have another problem "Image type x64 is not supported by this IA32 Shell"

Can you send me working version of flasher or bios? What keys uses to flash all BIOS blocks (like /p /b /n /k or -f)?

Hi ANTIBIOTIK86, We used to have that and we still have it for some Mini PCs, it is called Express BIOS Update but it was removed for a lot of products due to security reasons. More information available here: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005961/mini-pcs/intel-compute-sticks.html Regards, Ronny G

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27583/BIOS-Update-FCBYT10H-86A- this version have Express BIOS Update

I`m using now version 0038. Can I safely, according to this method, downgrade bios to version 0036?

Hi Leon, Regular .bio file is still available which can be used for recovery [F7] BIOS update method or for BIOS recovery process. iflash BIOS update is also available. UEFI is not supported and EBU was removed due to security reasons. Thanks, Ronny G

Hi Ronny,

I don't want to hijack this thread, but seem to me that there is misunderstanding here. I've instructed @ANTIBIOTIK86 in my posts above how to perform bios update using F7 key and bios recovery from Power Button Menu with F4 key. However according to ANTIBIOTIK86 replay (and the attached image to his post), the recovery wasn't complete and only Main and Graphic blocks where updated. So, the question now is - ist it the correct result, only two blocks are updated?

Hi ANTIBIOTIK86, I see that BIOS ver 36 still have EBU (Express BIOS Update) available https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27583/BIOS-Update-FCBYT10H-86A- From version 36 to 39 there are security fixes and security enhancements in all versions, this usually implies that stepping down is not allowed. I have not tried yet but if you try it and the system doesnt allow it, it is normal. Ronny G

ANTIBIOTIK86, Going back to the main issue, if the problem is that your Compute Stick is not saving date and time at the BIOS level, I hardly believe a BIOS update will fix this, this issue is probably caused by the system battery not keeping the necessary power. Loading latest BIOS is most of the time a good idea in general, if there any specific reason why would you want to downgrade? Thanks, Ronny G

Only time-setting not saved, another settings keep correctly, stick was buyed in august 2016 and 2 years later I have this problem. New versions of bios did not help, this problem with time began after installing version bios 0030 and higher

Hello everyone,

I ran BIOS update and had no issues at all, I used the .bio file and [F7] option during boot up.

Everything was properly updated as far as it was reported on the screen.IMG_0264.jpg

Hi Ronny,

It's looks like that ANTIBIOTIK86 is not following our advices? I have instructed how to update bios with F7 method and later how to recover bios from Power button Menu.

Leon

Hello ANTIBIOTIK86, I'd like to know if you were able to update the BIOS using the F7 method. Regards, Oscar A. Intel Customer Support Technician Under Contract to Intel Corporation

Uefiflash.efi is not supported on the original Compute Stick FC. Only way to flash the BIOS is using the F7 Flash key during POST. I don't know why that tool was included in the BIOS zip. Plus, that tool is for the x64 version of EFI Shell. FC comes with the x32 version so it will not work anyway.

As for the Time & Date being off, the battery in the Compute Sticks was very limited so if you had it unplugged for any length of time it is probably dead. My battery lasted about 6 months only. As long as the unit is plugged into the wall, the time and date should keep fine.

As for only seeing "Main Block Firmware" and "Graphics Firmware" being updated when you flash, that is normal for the Compute Sticks. They have a very limited BIOS so you will not see most things like normal NUC BIOS have.
