STCK1A8LFC can not run headless unless I update BIOS (I have version 24), but I can't update BIOS

As mentioned, I have linux 16.04 server installed on Compute Stick STCK1A8LFC.

I want to run it headless as a printer server, however whenever I unplug it from a HDMI monitor

and reboot it via SSH it does not come live again.

Of course It does boot fine if connected to the display.

I have been searching internet for around 5 hours now and I found that I have to update my BIOS to version at least 31.

I have tried both v. 31 and 35, this is what I do:

1. I copy the .bio files into the USB stick

2. I press F7, select file, press enter to confirm

3. The screen goes dark for a while

4. The intel Compute Stick reboots

5. When I enter bios again I see that it has not been updated

Also, no output is displayed, When I press enter to confirm I want to flash it It just goes black for a while (1-2 secs) and displays Compute

Stick BIOS menu again.

Any tips?@

You shouldn't have to, but you could try using a device emulator like this: https://www.amazon.com/CompuLab-fit-Headless-Display-Emulator/dp/B00FLZXGJ6 Amazon.com: CompuLab Display Emulator or this: https://www.amazon.com/Adwits-Display-Emulator-Headless-Monitor/dp/B0788N4LT7 Amazon.com: Adwits 4K/30Hz HDMI Display Emulator. Both would also require a F-F adapter like this: https://www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Coupler-Adapter-Extending-Devices/dp/B00B2HPAE6 Amazon.com: UGREEN High Speed HDMI Female to Female Coupler.

Hope this helps,

I know I can do this but this emulator still costs a bit. I think I'd be easier to just use HDMI-Female VGA converter and then make 3 resistor connections to emulate HDMI.

However this is still not a solution.

Any tips?

Okay after the BIOS update it is working but I keep getting this message after running for some time:

"please use AC adapter and system will shutdown in 30 sec"

I do not know what is wrong because im using 1 Amp phone charger.

Is 1 Amp not enough?

Well, the adapter that came with it was 2A, so I would say that 1A is probably not enough.

Thank you for following those steps Szustarol.

As N. Scott Pearson mentioned, were you able to use a 2A adapter with you Compute Stick?
